Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina women’s golf is set to tee off at the Lowcountry Intercollegiate tournament in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The three-day event, scheduled from Friday to Sunday, will see the Catamounts compete at the Moss Creek Golf Club’s South Course, spanning 6,009 yards of golfing terrain.
The tournament format includes 18-hole rounds over three consecutive days, with the practice round set for Thursday, March 14. Golf enthusiasts can track the live scoring for each round online through GolfStat.
In addition to Western Carolina and the host school, Wofford, the tournament features a field of 16 teams, including familiar Southern Conference rivals such as ETSU, UNCG, and Samford. The competition will be stiff with teams from Appalachian State, Boston University, Dayton, and others vying for the top honors.
Notably, each of the last seven tournaments has crowned a different team champion, showcasing the level of competitiveness in the field. Wofford, the most recent team to clinch the title back in 2015, will look to defend their home turf against the stacked lineup of contenders.
Western Carolina will field a strong lineup for the event, with all six rostered golfers geared up to make their mark on the challenging course. Leading the pack is junior Elizabeth Lohbauer, coming off two consecutive Top Five finishes in the spring season.
Sophomore Brie Mapanao, boasting a WCU-best 72.67 stroke average, will also be a key player to watch. The Catamounts will be looking to capitalize on the strong performances of their top players, including Sadler Miller, Victoria Ladd, and Kayleigh Baker.
Kaitlyn Wingnean, a junior from Canada, will add an international flair to the competition as she competes unattached as an individual, aiming to make her presence felt among the collegiate golfing elite.
Following the Lowcountry Intercollegiate, the Catamounts will return to North Carolina for the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate as their final tune-up before the Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship in mid-April. The team will have their sights set on fine-tuning their game and building momentum heading into the championship event.
