September 21, 2024 – In a thrilling week of high school football, many teams kicked off their region play across the state. With matches taking place in various divisions, fans witnessed outstanding performances and some intense rivalries.
Over in Region 1, Greenville secured a narrow victory against Woodmont with a score of 35-31. Meanwhile, Greenwood triumphed over T.L. Hanna with a score of 25-21, showing determination to climb the standings. Hillcrest dominated their game against Mauldin, winning decisively with a score of 51-6, indicating a strong season ahead for the team. J.L. Mann also had a comfortable win, defeating Easley 35-6.
In Region 2, Byrnes showcased their strength against Wade Hampton, winning impressively 52-0. Dorman kept up their winning ways with a solid performance to beat Riverside 24-13. Gaffney followed suit by securing a 28-22 win over Boiling Springs, while Spartanburg dominated Eastside in a 49-6 blowout.
In Region 3, it was clear that Catawba Ridge was on a roll as they slammed Fort Mill with a 30-0 victory. Northwestern showed their prowess by routing Nation Ford 67-13, signaling they are serious contenders this season. Rock Hill secured a close win over Clover, finishing 27-21.
As the AAAA Region 2 teams clashed, Greer triumphed 63-0 against Berea, while Pickens defeated Blue Ridge 35-26. Seneca also made a statement with a 63-12 win over Travelers Rest.
The AAAA Region 3 games were just as exciting, with Richland Northeast beating Camden 26-15, and South Pointe overpowering A.C. Flora 56-14. York managed a tight victory of 17-14 against Dreher, showcasing their competitive spirit.
In Class A Region 5, Baptist Hill took down Bethune-Bowman, finishing 28-8, while Branchville marked a decisive 41-12 victory against Scott’s Branch. Cross showed no mercy, winning 56-0 against Military Magnet.
Several players made their marks this week. Wando secured a strong win against West Ashley, final score 21-7. Quarterback Harris Stone threw two touchdown passes, one for 34 yards and another for 67 yards in a clear display of skill. The Warriors’ resilience is clearly paying off under new coach, Isaiah Perrin.
The game at Bishop England was especially notable as they came from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat Philip Simmons, 21-14, marking a significant win for their head coach, Logan Hall.
As teams look to build on their successes, Region play will continue next week. The excitement and rivalry in high school football are truly heating up as schools vie for position in their respective standings.
