Weather Update: Savannah to Experience Mix of Sunshine and Showers This Week

Weather Update for Savannah, Georgia: A Mix of Sunshine and Showers Ahead

Hey there, Savannah! After a rather cloudy day, we’re finally seeing some improvements in the sky. If you’re planning a trip to the beach, you’re in luck! There are some sunny spots starting to clear up as the drier air aloft makes its way down and helps push away those pesky clouds.

The temperatures around here are starting to shift as well. For those of you in southern cities, like Jesup, you’re basking in a cozy 77°F. Meanwhile, if you’re closer to Statesboro, you might want to grab a light jacket since it’s only about 71°F. This temperature variation is due to a phenomenon known as “cold air damming.” Essentially, it’s a wedge of high pressure sneaking down through much of the southeastern states, bringing some cooler air with it.

What to Expect Overnight

As we look offshore, there’s a coastal trough that’s creating some showers and even a hint of lightning far out at sea. Don’t worry too much, but it is inching closer to our beautiful islands late tonight into Tuesday morning. If you’re west of I-95, Tuesday morning is shaping up to be dry and mostly sunny. However, those who live closer to the coast—especially in Savannah, Bluffton, and Richmond Hill—should expect more clouds and possibly some sprinkles.

As you wake up on Tuesday, temperatures inland will likely hover around 55°F, while our coastal friends can expect it to feel a bit warmer at around 60°F. Later in the day, that moisture might drift a little further west, leading to a 20% chance of afternoon showers inland. Don’t get too discouraged though! Afternoon highs are predicted to be near the normal, which is about 75°F for this time of year.

Looking Ahead to the Rest of the Week

As we move on to Wednesday, mark your calendars for Halloween. We’re in for a treat with mostly sunny skies and a high around 81°F. Then comes Thursday, which will bring unseasonably warm temperatures with highs reaching about 83°F—so it looks like Halloween festivities might be enjoyed under the sunshine!

It’s worth mentioning that even though we might see some rainfall on Tuesday, it won’t do much to improve our October rainfall totals. In fact, we’re on track to tie for the second driest October on record. Here’s how it stands:

  • 1. 2000 – trace
  • 2. 2024/1963 – 0.02″
  • 3. 1942 – 0.06″
  • 4. 1962 – 0.09″

Weekend Forecast

Looking ahead to the weekend, there’s another cold front on the horizon, but it seems to come with limited moisture. Expect temperatures in the low 80s for those afternoon highs. And remember, this weekend we “lose” an hour as we adjust to Daylight Saving Time! Be sure to set your clocks back and don’t forget to enjoy some extra daylight!

Until next time, stay safe and enjoy the lovely Savannah weather, whether it’s sunny or not!
