Warm Days Ahead in Savannah as Flood Risks Increase

Welcome to another beautiful sunny day in Savannah, Georgia! As we dive into the afternoon, temperatures are climbing into the mid 80s, with a heat index making it feel closer to 90 degrees. If you’re heading out, don’t forget your sunscreen and a cool drink! The skies are expected to feature a few clouds later today, but thankfully, we’ll remain dry, especially for those folks out there lending a hand with storm relief efforts.

River Levels on the Rise

As the warm weather blankets us, our rivers are telling a different story. The Ogeechee River, in particular, is something to keep an eye on. It’s been rising steadily and is predicted to reach Moderate Flood Stage by Sunday. This increase poses potential flooding risks for areas downstream, especially for Ellabell and Richmond Hill as we move into next week. Be cautious if you’re in those regions or near the river!

In addition to the Ogeechee, the Ohoopee River near Reidsville is currently at a Moderate Flood Stage but is expected to drop over the weekend. So, while the weather gets hotter, it’s essential to keep an ear out for updates regarding river conditions as they can change quickly.

Looking Ahead: The Weekend Forecast

For those planning their weekend activities, there’s good news! Highs on Saturday and Sunday are projected to stay in the comfy low to mid 80s. There’s a slight chance of rain on the horizon—especially early Friday morning. After that, however, the sun will shine bright again, allowing you to enjoy outdoor plans with minimal interruptions.

Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall Breeze!

If you’re one of those folks who’s ready for a touch of fall, your wish might just come true! Midweek, a weak front is expected to roll in, bringing with it some cooler temperatures and a refreshing breeze. We’re talking highs near the delightful 80-degree mark and morning lows dipping into the low to mid 60s. Perfect weather for a cozy sweater and hot cider!

Tropical Update: What to Watch

Florida, it’s nothing that should cause alarm right here in Savannah.

Meanwhile, we need to keep an eye on Hurricane Kirk, which is on track to become a Category Four hurricane over open water. Additionally, Tropical Storm Leslie is also expected to strengthen into a hurricane this weekend in the Eastern Atlantic. Luckily, both of these systems shouldn’t affect land, so we can breathe a little easier on that front.

Remember to Stay Connected

As we enjoy these warm days and watch the rivers rise, don’t forget to check in with local resources in case conditions change. Stay safe out there and enjoy all that our beautiful Savannah has to offer!
