Celebrate Veterans Day in Savannah with a Grand Parade!

Hey there, Savannah residents and visitors! Get ready for one of the most anticipated events of the year. The annual Veterans Day Parade is making its way through downtown Savannah this coming Monday, starting at 10 a.m.. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come out, show your support for our veterans, and enjoy a beautiful day in our charming city!

Planning Your Day Around the Parade

If you’re planning to head downtown to witness the festivities, you’ll want to take note of some important details. First off, street closures will kick off at 6 a.m. on parade day, so if you’re not an early bird, it might be wise to adjust your plans. Don’t worry, the roads are expected to fully reopen by 2 p.m..

Traffic News You Can Use

Now, here’s what you need to know: traffic will definitely be impacted throughout the downtown area as the parade moves through. If you live nearby or plan to visit friends, you might face some challenges with parking. The staging area for the parade will be located on Abercorn Street between E. Gwinnett and E. Park Avenue. This area will start experiencing closures at 12:01 a.m., so make sure to plan accordingly!

Starting at 6 a.m., no parking will be allowed along the parade route, which begins at the intersection of E. Gwinnett and Abercorn Streets. The procession will then head north along Abercorn, swing west at Liberty Street, and continue north on Montgomery Street. The grand finale will take place as the parade heads east on W. Broughton Street and disbands at Price Street.

Important Traffic Updates

To keep everyone safe and sound, certain roads will be closed. Specifically, Liberty Street will be shut off for westbound traffic, and eastbound traffic on Liberty won’t be able to go past Drayton Street. Additionally, Oglethorpe will be closed in both directions from Montgomery to E. Broad Street. Make sure you pay attention to any posted signage in the staging area and along the parade route to avoid unnecessary headaches!

Parking Alerts for Residents

For those of you living in the area, keep an eye out for no parking zones that will be clearly marked ahead of the parade. Remember, vehicles that remain in these designated spots after the indicated times will be towed at the owner’s expense. Yikes! Nobody wants to add that drama to their day.

More Reasons to Celebrate

As we prepare for this day of remembrance, it’s important to cherish the sacrifices made by our veterans. It’s a chance for all of Savannah to come together as a community – waving flags, cheering, and showing our appreciation. Plus, it’s a great excuse to enjoy some of the local food or grab a coffee while you’re out and about.

Final Thoughts

So there you have it! Mark your calendars and grab your friends and family for a heartwarming day in Savannah that honors our veterans. The weather’s looking promising, and there’s a certain magic in the air when the community comes together like this. Let’s show our veterans the love and respect they deserve this Monday. See you at the parade!
