United Way of the Coastal Empire Honors Top Donors and Upcoming Events in Savannah

Highlights of the week

With numerous upcoming events and initiatives, Savannah continues to be a vibrant ground for both business and culture. This week, key highlights include the United Way of the Coastal Empire’s recognition events for its top donors and various other happenings within the arts, entertainment, and culinary sectors.

United Way of Coastal Empire Recognition Events

The United Way of the Coastal Empire (UWCE) will be honoring its top three local corporate donors on Monday, April 15, at the Georgia Ports Authority. Colonial Group, Inc., Georgia Ports Authority, and Gulfstream Aerospace—each contributing more than half a million dollars—will be individually celebrated for their significant contributions to the 2023-2024 United Way Campaign. These companies’ generosity has tremendously impacted the UWCE’s efforts in creating a better and stronger community.

Liberty International Film Festival

Furthermore, on May 4, the Liberty International Film Festival (LIFF) will take place at The Liberty County Performing Arts Center. The festival, sponsored by The Liberty County Convention and Visitors Center, has received over 100 film submissions from across the world. With categories catering to K-8, high school, college, and professional and independent filmmakers, the festival represents a highly inclusive platform for diverse storytelling. Attendees of the festival will have the opportunity to enjoy and critique a total of 37 films.

April Events at Thompson Savannah

The Thompson Savannah hotel is offering an array of events throughout April, one of which includes an exclusive cocktail demonstration and book signing event with award-winning food and travel writer Paul Feinstein in celebration of his recently published book, ‘Italy cocktails: An Elegant Collection of Over 100 Recipes Inspired by Italia.’

Visitors will be able to enjoy a cocktail tasting flight featuring recipes from Feinstein’s book, a diverse selection of canapes from the Thompson Savannah’s culinary team, and a personally signed copy of his book. This event will take place on April 27th from 2-4 pm at Thompson Savannah’s Sunroom, which is strictly limited to individuals aged 21 and over.

Other events at the Thompson Savannah include the opening of their summer pool deck—an urban oasis that perfectly combines relaxation with luxury, and a new art installation by Katherine Sandoz that will be available for guest viewing from April 18th onwards.

Savannah Tree Foundation Green Gala

The Savannah Tree Foundation (STF) is hosting its third annual Green Gala on April 20th at Tiedeman Park. The event, aimed at celebrating Chatham County’s urban forest and raising funds for STF’s tree planting initiatives, will be presented by Dulany Industries. They have also partnered with STF to establish a Community Tree Nursery at SeaPoint Industrial Terminal Complex, thereby significantly boosting the Foundation’s tree planting and distribution efforts. The gala will honor longtime supporter and community leader Audrey Platt as the 2024 Tree Champion.

Enmarket Charity Classic’s Achievements

The Enmarket Charity Classic golf tournament recently raised $270,000 for charity, pushing Enmarket’s 5-year sponsorship total past the $1 million milestone. The pitch-perfect blend of golf and philanthropy has proven to be a successful model. The proceeds from this year’s tournament will be evenly divided between The 200 Club of the Coastal Empire and Make-A-Wish Georgia.

With these events and more, Savannah continues to be a vibrant city with a strong sense of community,
championing philanthropy alongside arts, entertainment, and culinary adventures.
