Savannah, GA – The 9th annual Raising Hope charity event, organized by non-profit Union Mission, has announced its main presenters and special honoree. The event, hosted at the Savannah Convention Center, aims to benefit efforts in creating real change for people experiencing homelessness.
Raising Hope, supported by Oliver Maner LLP and the Georgia Ports Authority, will begin with a cocktail reception before launching into presentations hosted by Benefit Auction Specialist Dean Crownover. Special guest emcees are set to include Lead Anchor for WSAV News 3, Tina Tyus-Shaw, and Leader of Congregation Mickve Israel, Rabbi Robert Haas.
For music enthusiasts, local singer, songwriter, and American Idol winner Candice Glover will also be partaking in the event. But the night’s focus will rest on keynote speaker Jason Howe, Executive Director for K9s on the Front Line in Missouri and author of “Unleashed: The Powerfully Simple Path to Adapt and Overcome Trauma, Addiction and the Silent Battle with Mental Illness”. Howe is expected to talk about his personal struggles with PTSD, anxiety, depression, and drug addiction, which led to homelessness and the loss of his children.
The organization is also planning to honor Mr. Patrick Monahan, who has dedicated numerous years volunteering for Union Mission and making significant contributions to the Savannah community.
In his address, Howe will detail his story, recounting his journey from mental illness and homelessness to becoming an executive director and author. Defying odds, Howe now helps others by sharing his firsthand experience. He will be joined by his Service Hero Dog, Sobee, the 2021 Hero Dog Award Winner.
Patrick Monahan’s dedication and service to the Savannah community have not gone unnoticed. Not only has Monahan devoted his time as a volunteer with Union Mission, but he has also served as interim executive director during a leadership search. Beyond the realm of Union Mission, Monahan has significantly contributed to various homeless organizations in the Savannah area.
The Raising Hope event features a silent auction conducted by AmFund, with the items being international and domestic travel packages. Following the auction, attendees will sit down for dinner and the main program, which will kick off at 6:45 p.m.
Funds raised from the event will go towards Union Mission’s work combating homelessness and providing emergency, transitional, and permanent housing solutions for people in need.
The Union Mission’s Raising Hope event embodies the non-profit sector’s ability to create real change through dedication, hard work, and community involvement. Individuals interested in attending or sponsoring the event can get more information through Union Mission’s website.
