The first incident occurred around 10:28 a.m when 65-year-old Ralph Jamieson was found unresponsive at 21 Dune Lane. According to local authorities, the cause of death is yet to be determined – it is unclear whether Jamieson passed away due to a medical emergency or a drowning.

Officials are painstakingly gathering information and conducting an investigation, with the scheduled autopsy expected to provide much-needed answers about Jamieson’s unfortunate demise.

Later that Friday afternoon, at approximately 3:22 p.m., a possible drowning alert was issued near Ketch. 73-year-old Leonard Schenz was reportedly spotted in the water, after which it seemed he submerged and failed to resurface. By the time local police deputies arrived at the scene, Hilton Head Fire Department personnel were already conducting life-saving measures, but unfortunately, these proved to be unsuccessful. Schenz was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office indicated that neither drowning incident could be immediately linked to the current rip currents or the effects of the impending Hurricane Ernesto.
