In the beautiful city of Savannah, big things are happening with the new Tide to Town project, aimed to create a vibrant urban trail system that everyone can enjoy. If you live in Savannah, your input is incredibly valuable! The city is all ears, inviting residents to share their thoughts on what they want to see along the newly proposed trail.
The city has set up a convenient survey for residents to fill out. It asks a wide range of questions that focus mostly on how you envision using the trail and what features you’d be excited to see along the way. Whether you’d like to see local businesses sprout up, parks where families can play, employment centers, or even affordable housing developments, this is your chance to make your voice heard. Anyone residing in Savannah can participate in this survey—so don’t hold back!
This week is particularly special as the city is hosting several community meetings for residents to talk through trail options in person. There will be meetings on the southside, eastside, and westside of the city, as well as a virtual option for those who prefer to join from the comfort of their own homes. The goal is not just to construct a trail, but to foster a connection with communities that may have been overlooked in the past.
During an engaging forum, we spoke with Bridget Lidy, the Director of Planning and Design in Savannah. She emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “It’s crucial for the community to come out and really share their thoughts with us as we move forward with the planning of Tide to Town. We really want to make sure we tap into communities that, in the past, were overlooked.”
This ambitious trail will stretch over 30 miles and aims to connect a whopping 62 neighborhoods, 30 schools, and three major hospitals. Can you imagine how this could revolutionize how residents navigate our lovely city?
Mark your calendars for a fun-filled bus tour on October 19! This tour will take participants around the areas of the trail that have already been completed, giving everyone a firsthand look at what the finished project could feel like. It’s a great opportunity to visualize how the trail will enhance Savannah and foster community connections!
As we heard from a local Savannah resident named Julian, the current trail has already provided a more convenient route to Lake Mayer. “They recently opened the trail, and before that, you had to walk into the street to get over to Lake Mayer, so it’s pretty convenient,” he mentioned with a smile. Stories like Julian’s highlight how impactful this project can be for everyday lives.
This is undoubtedly a pivotal moment in making Savannah an even better place to live, work, and play. The city encourages everyone to partake in the survey and attend the forum on Monday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Windsor Forest High School on Largo Drive.
So, Savannah, are you ready to step up and help shape the future of our community through the Tide to Town project? Your feedback can truly make a difference, and we can’t wait to see how this exciting initiative unfolds!
