Savannah Prepares for St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

The St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Savannah is poised to attract hundreds of thousands of attendees on March 17. Here’s what you need to know about parking and event logistics.

Parking Information

  • Parks will charge a special event parking fee of $25 on March 17.
  • Monthly parking pass cardholders must also pay the $25 fee but get early entry from 5 a.m. on March 16 to 8 a.m. on March 17.
  • After 8 a.m. on March 17, parking garages open to the general public.
  • Street parking is available but limited near the parade route and staging area.
  • Vehicles in “no parking” zones will be towed; visitors should follow temporary signage.

Event Schedule

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off at 10:15 a.m. at Gwinnett and Abercorn, concluding at Bull and Harris.

  • 12:00 p.m.: Shamrocks and Shenanigans at Plant Riverside
  • 1:00 p.m.: Official Bar Crawl at Stafford’s Public House
  • 2:00 p.m.: VIP party at Eastern Wharf

Transportation Tips

To alleviate congestion, the city will implement three “rideshare geofence” areas for late-night drop-offs and pick-ups between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. Rideshare access to downtown will be limited outside the parade route, possibly requiring attendees to walk.

Visitors are encouraged to explore alternative transportation options such as biking or using park-and-ride shuttle services.

On-Site Amenities and Regulations

  • The event will feature an extended “To-Go Cup Zone,” allowing attendees to consume alcohol outdoors. Fines of $150 apply for those drinking from cans, bottles, or glass.
  • Portable restrooms will be available in the parade area to accommodate guests.

Traffic and Road Closures

Heavy traffic is anticipated throughout downtown Savannah, with several roads near the parade route being closed. Visitors seeking additional information or assistance can connect with local Savannahians or check the city’s website for updates and resources.
