On a typical Wednesday morning in St. Helena Island, things took an unexpected turn that grabbed the attention of many residents. Around 9 a.m., the calmness of the southern part of the island was shattered by the blaring of police sirens and the sight of a silver Honda Accord speeding down Toomer Road. This raised alarms, prompting the concerned caller to reach out to law enforcement. Shortly after, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received notification from Georgia police that the car had been reported stolen from Screven County, which is about 50 miles away from Savannah. The shocking kicker? The driver was just a 17-year-old girl, who had made off with her mother’s car, dragging her 14-year-old brother along for the ride.

Once the girl fled from an attempted traffic stop, a serious chase began, involving over a dozen sheriff’s deputies and a Highway Patrol trooper.
