As we find ourselves in beautiful South Carolina, many residents are eagerly awaiting the arrival of spring! Winter’s chill is still lingering, but a delightful change is just around the corner. The official start of spring is set for March 20 in the northern hemisphere, and that means it’s nearly time for blooming flowers, trees budding with life, and animals wriggling out of hibernation.
This winter has certainly thrown its fair share of chilly weather our way, complete with some unexpected snow events that had everyone bundling up. Now, as we gear up for a lovely spring season, meteorologists are closely monitoring the up-and-coming weather patterns to see what to expect.
According to the experts at the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center, South Carolina can expect an intriguing mix when it comes to rainfall from March through May. The forecasts indicate that there are equal chances of having either above-normal or below-normal rainfall. But get this: there’s a 40% to 50% chance that temperatures will be warmer than what we typically experience during these months!
Oh, and let’s not forget about the Farmer’s Almanac. This seasoned reference has its roots dating back to 1818 and is making its predictions based on a secret formula that considers sunspot activity, tidal movements, and planetary alignments. Historical accuracy shows that their forecasts can be spot-on around 80% to 85% of the time. They’re saying we should prepare for a typical wet spring filled with potential thunderstorms and fairly warm weather.
Mark your calendars! The week of March 20 is expected to kick off with some heavy rain, just in time for spring’s grand entrance. Following this rainy Monday, we can expect a week filled with **sunshine and light showers** leading us through the end of the month.
Fast forward to the week of April 4, and you may want to keep your umbrella handy once again, as showers will become more frequent. If you’re looking for some outdoor fun during the week of April 16, keep your fingers crossed as a few thunderstorms may make an appearance; however, Easter week is forecasted to bring some lovely weather just in time for celebrations!
As we stroll into the last week of April, stormy weather may knock on our doors once again, ahead of a mostly pleasant May. The beginning of May looks promising for enjoyable spring conditions, but by the week of April 12, scattered thunderstorms are likely to interrupt the cheer.
Are you ready for a sneak peek of the upcoming week? Expect warm, midweek weather with highs reaching about 78°F and clear skies on Wednesday. Thursday will follow suit with temperatures around 75°F, but keep an eye on those clouds as they begin to roll in.
As we enter the weekend, those rain chances start kicking up on Saturday afternoon with expected temperatures around 82°F. A {b}60% chance of rain may accompany the overnight hours heading into Sunday, which will likely bring continued showers and a high of about 77°F.
Travelers along I-26 should be particularly prepared for some potentially slippery road conditions when the rain hits later this week. All in all, ideal spring vibes are anticipated from Wednesday through Friday before we face another round of rain over the weekend.
