Savannah’s Slow Fire BBQ Proposes Permanent Location With Brunch Pop-ups

Mainstay food truck, Slow Fire BBQ, from Savannah, is setting its sights on establishing a brick and mortar establishment. Following an eruption of popularity after initially launching in January 2023, the BBQ truck, which ushered in a pit-smoked revolution in the city, is now planning on anchoring itself at a permanent location.

Aiming for a Stable Spot in Savanah’s Food Scene

Typically, most food trucks aim to build a steady customer base to ultimately establish a storefront, facing the daunting potential overhead costs of rent, utility, and labor. Weighing their options, the proprietors at Slow Fire BBQ share the same straightforwardness when conversely, some food trucks prefer to avoid the financial weight that comes with a dedicated spot.

Recognized as one of Savannah’s premier food trucks, Slow Fire BBQ is now gearing up to become an everyday destination for BBQ aficionados in the city — although it’s uncertain if they’ll be open seven days a week.

From School Bus to Storefront

Originating from a revamped school bus set-up, a permanent location for Slow Fire BBQ on 1904 Waters Avenue may soon become a reality. Apart from dishing out their regular fare of pulled pork or brisket sandwiches, they’ve introduced a few simple brunch items to their menu, such as a brisket taco topped with a fried egg, hot honey spicy chicken slider with pimento cheese, and a brunch bowl featuring spicy cheese grits, tater tots, an egg, green onions, and a choice of either brisket or pork.

Note that the weekend pop-ups at 1904 Waters are not exclusive. During the week the food truck continues its nomadic life, appearing at different destinations throughout the city. Their weekly itinerary is subject to variation, and updates can be found on their Instagram page.

Neighborhood Transformation on Waters Avenue

The forthcoming permanent venue at Waters Avenue marks a significant entrant in the ongoing neighborhood transformation at this location. Convenient seating through several picnic tables allows customers to dine, and there’s even a provisional restroom open for those caught short of facilities. The area has witnessed the rise of new, beloved establishments such as the Clinton Edminster’s Water Cafe, the upcoming launching of a neighborhood grocery store, and the third extension of Gary Gordon’s 520 Wings — all of which has been playing a role in the neighborhood’s rapid revitalization.

In conclusion, making a permanent home at Waters Avenue would signal an exciting new chapter for Slow Fire BBQ. Its flavorful menu and dependable presence would undoubtedly add an irresistible draw for Savannah’s food lovers, contributing to the area’s vibrant culinary culture.
