Glamping for a Good Cause: Southern-Area Sisters hosts Vintage Trailer Trot

In an endearing display of camaraderie and the spirit of giving, members of the Southern-Area Sisters found a fresh way to give back to their local community. When Jennifer Megliore developed a love for camping, she never envisaged that it could turn into a noteworthy cause.

The KickSAS Sisterhood

Made up of women from their mid-30s to mid-80s, the KickSAS, also known as Southern-Area Sisters, unite their love for camping and companionship in a fellowship that transcends their love for vintage trailers.

The Vintage Camper Trailer Trot Fundraiser

In the spirit of giving and inclusion, KickSAS hosted the inaugural Vintage Camper Trailer Trot at the Savannah Lakes RV Resort in Hardeeville, South Carolina. While attendance was free, a donation of $10 was suggested, with the proceeds going towards two significant causes supported by the KickSAS

Charitable Motives

Two-thirds of the proceeds from the event went towards supporting the Hospice Center of the Lowcountry, a non-profit entity dedicated to providing dignifying end-of-life care with a focus on life than death. The Hospice Center’s mission resonated with the members of KickSAS, especially given the direct relationship between the hospice and their group.

The remaining funds raised were funneled into the Karen Wilson Special Education Empowerment scholarship, named in memory of beloved KickSAS member and local high school teacher Karen Wilson. Her dedication to special education was honored by the scholarship aimed at fostering the personal and academic growth of two high schools students receiving Special Education services in South Carolina.

The ‘Jewel’ of the Trailer Trot

The KickSAS group prides itself on a diversity of camping styles, and the camping styles stretch from tent camping to conversion vans, casitas, and air streams. The star of the Trailer Trot was without a doubt Christina DeLong’s turquoise-bathtub-equipped estate model camper, known as ‘Jewel’. The detailed decorations and planned living spaces added to the event’s charm and perfectly showcased the dedication and passion these women put into their vintage campers.

Experience the Charm of the Vintage

Nostalgia is an integral part of KickSAS’s outings, and the vintage-lined tables at the Trailer Trot offered visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the past. The love for community and charity is evident, but the shared joy of camping and togetherness is what truly makes this group unique.

As Megliore puts it, “I think everybody’s relaxed, and it’s free time, perhaps with a beverage, and we just enjoy spending time together. There’s something healing about that. It seems to wipe away the dust of everyday life.”
