Woman Bitten by Shark on Hilton Head Island
Savannah, Georgia – Shark Encounter at High Noon
A woman enjoying a leisurely swim off the coast of Hilton Head was bitten by a shark on Monday around noon. The incident shockingly occurred near beach marker 26 in Sea Pines, nestled between Surf Scoter Road and Snowy Egret Road. Post the incident, all swimmers were swiftly ushered out of the water in the surrounding area for approximately a half-hour.
Quick Thrust, Swift Recovery
The victim of the incident opted not to receive EMS treatment or ambulance transportation, once again reinforcing the unpredictability of wildlife encounters. The Shore Beach Service believes that the attack, which appeared to target the woman’s foot, bore the tell-tale signs of a shark bite.
Wave of Shark Bites
This incident may not be unique for Hilton Head this year. An unconfirmed shark bite incident was reported earlier in the beach season, suggesting an unsettled pattern. “We had something that was a possible bite earlier this year, but it was never confirmed,” reported Mike Wagner from Shore Beach Service. The lack of confirmation on the previous incident leaves a lingering mystery, contributing to the unease among the beach’s regular patrons.
Shore Services to the Rescue
The trained staff at Shore Beach Service are well-versed in managing incidents of this nature, ensuring any impacted areas are quickly cleared and tagged following such unforeseen incidents. These swift responses help in mitigating danger and reducing the potential for further encounters. Shark attacks are a rare occurrence, but it is always advisable to observe safety measures when swimming in open waters.

They are also appealing to the public to assist in investigations of reported crimes, such as the recent kidnapping of a three-year-old in Savannah – who was later found safe – and the shooting of a male victim in the deadly 1000 block Shawnee Street incident.
