A Day of Service Remembered
SAVANNAH, Ga- In a remarkable act of charity, Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia received a significant donation of lactose-free milk on Monday from the International Dairy Food Association Foundation (IDFAF). The donation, valued at $30,000, is aimed at assisting families in need in the area and marked the same day as the foundation’s day of service.
The Day of Service Event
An enthusiastic group of more than 60 dairy food company officials visited the new Second Harvest site on Chatham Parkway. The group spent the day diligently packing meals as part of their commitment to battling hunger in the local community.
The group’s spokesperson stated, “We’ve been here for three hours. We just packed 3,000 meals for kids in need. One in 6 kids in the state of Georgia struggle with hunger. We just donated $10,000. That $10,000 is going to support 50,000 meals here in the eastern part of Georgia.”
Addressing Hunger in Georgia
Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia has been a cornerstone of the community, working ardently to alleviate hunger and feed the state’s needy children. The significant donation comes at an opportune time when many in Georgia are grappling with food insecurity.
The donated lactose-free milk will provide a vital source of nutrition for families and children experiencing hunger. In Georgia, one in six children grapples with hunger, and this generous donation from the IDFAF will be instrumental in easing the struggle faced by these families.
A Closer Look at the Donation
The truckload of lactose-free milk donated by the International Dairy Food Association Foundation presents potential benefits beyond its impressive market value. Lactose-free milk is a crucial dietary component for those who are lactose intolerant, unable to properly digest lactose, a sugar found in milk and other dairy products. This lactose-free milk will cater to a demographic often overlooked in food assistance programs, allowing more families to benefit.
Impact of the Event
The charity event held by the International Dairy Food Association Foundation at the Second Harvest site in Chatham Parkway is destined to leave a lasting impact on the local community. Beyond the physical donation, the event brought much-needed awareness to hunger issues in Georgia, reminding residents and the wider state of the ongoing struggle against food insecurity.
Thanks to the efforts of the IDFAF, the Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia continues its noble mission of providing food assistance to those in need. As the battle continues, gestures as these provide hope and exemplify the power of collective action against hunger.
