Beaufort, SC – The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has announced plans to hold a public information meeting on Thursday, August 1, related to a proposed intersection improvement project in Beaufort County. The meeting will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Burton Wells County Park, located at 1 Middleton Recreation Drive in Beaufort.
During the meeting, representatives from SCDOT will be available to discuss the proposed project with community members. The meeting will adopt a drop-in style format; there will be no formal presentation. Members of the community are encouraged to attend and engage in discussions about the proposed intersection improvement at the junction of S.C. 116 (Laurel Bay Road) and S-597 (Stanley Farm Road).
The purpose of the project, according to SCDOT, is to transform the intersection into a single-lane roundabout. The goal is to reduce the number of severe crashes in the area and enhance overall safety. The intersection was identified through the Highway Safety Improvement Program using a data-driven approach to pinpoint areas that could benefit from infrastructure improvements for safety enhancements.
For more details about the project, interested individuals are invited to visit the project webpage. To stay updated about this project, as well as other proposed SCDOT projects, public members can refer to the SCDOT’s public information meetings webpage.
This meeting signifies a continued commitment by the SCDOT to prioritize the safety and well-being of Beaufort County residents. Future projects and initiatives can be expected to be announced through public meetings, ensuring that all members of the community have a voice in the decisions that affect their local area.
Members of the public are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting and provide their inputs on the proposed improvements. The SCDOT places high importance on community feedback, ensuring that proposed projects align with the needs and expectations of the local residents.
With this step, SCDOT reassures its dedication to making travel safer for everyone. Through this open forum, the department is keen on hearing from the people who will be directly impacted by these changes. Therefore, all residents of Beaufort are urged to attend the meeting on August 1, 2024, and let their voices be heard over matters that are of high importance to their community.
