Cloudy Skies and Rain in Savannah: A Weekend Weather Wrap-Up
As we dive into the weekend here in Savannah, it seems like Mother Nature has decided to sprinkle a bit of excitement into our Friday. Most of the day has been marked by cloudy skies, and for some of us, a dance with the raindrops has already begun. For those who haven’t yet felt the rain, don’t worry; the clouds are here to stay, and the chance of rain is about to ramp up!
What’s Happening Today
If you peek outside right now, you might notice the gloomy skies, but it’s likely it’s still warm outside with temperatures hovering between 80-82°F for most folks, while Hilton Head kept it a tad cooler at 79°F. This evening, we’re looking at a 70% chance of rain, with scattered showers likely. Some of these may come with a bit of a punch, bringing localized heavier downpours and perhaps even a rumble of thunder as the night goes on. Rainfall amounts of 1-2 inches are possible, particularly along our beautiful coast.
So, get comfy! The forecast indicates that as we settle in for the evening, temperatures will cool slightly to around 78°F. If you have any Friday plans, it might be a good idea to keep your umbrella handy.
Looking Ahead to Saturday
As we wake up on Saturday, it’s going to feel rather similar. Expect a cloudy morning with temperatures around 71°F. Unfortunately, those who are further north—like Springfield, Hampton, and Sylvania—might not see temperatures climb much above 77°F. The good news is that the chance of rain will sit around 60% during the day. There’s potential for some breaks in the rain after 4 PM, especially for areas west of I-16.
The area of low pressure will continue to nudge its way up the coast, while a cold front will make its own move and stall out just offshore into Sunday. Keep your eyes open for the weather to shift a bit; while we’re expecting cloudy skies, patches of sunshine may filter through.
What About Sunday and Beyond?
Sunday morning will greet us with more of that familiar cloud coverage, and we’ll be waking up to temperatures in the upper 60s. Afternoon highs on Sunday are forecasted to struggle a bit, reaching only around 80°F with about a 50% chance of rain. Those of you living further inland might find that the precipitation will be a bit less daunting.
As we move into Monday, get ready for a mixed bag of clouds and rain possibilities. Morning temperatures will be in the mid-60s, and we might see highs of 81°F with a 40% chance of rain. By Tuesday and onward, we can expect those temperatures to gradually rise into the mid-80s as the week progresses.
For Beach Lovers
If you’re planning a day at the beach, please take note: there’s a moderate risk of rip currents at all local beaches today, but that will drop to a low risk for Saturday. Always a good idea to stay safe while enjoying the sun and sand!
In terms of marine conditions, Friday night brings NE winds between 10 to 15 knots with seas of 3 to 4 feet, and rain is likely. Saturday will also see similar conditions, so keep that in mind if you’re heading out on the water.
So, as we round out this Friday and head into what looks like a rather rainy weekend, let’s make the most of it! Grab your favorite cozy blanket, a good book, or catch up on a movie marathon. Remember to stay safe and dry!
