Savannah, a city known for its vibrant community and cultural diversity, has taken a significant step towards streamlining the management of short-term vacation rentals (STVR) within its jurisdiction. The city authorities have recently launched a brand new online platform, ‘Rentalscape’, aimed at facilitating the application and renewal processes for STVR operators. This innovative move is seen as a significant progression in the city’s growth and development endeavors.
The new software platform endorses an entirely online application process which means friendly user experience and easy access for the city’s Stakeholders. The portal allows for online submission of applications, uploading of all the required documentation, and even provides online payment options – making it a complete digital solution for managing STVRs in Savannah.
The other pivotal feature of this inventive portal is its ability to lodge complaints regarding STVRs, establishing an online podium for citizens to voice any issues they encounter with short-term rentals in a simple and direct manner. The software routes the complaints immediately to the City’s Code Compliance Department, thereby earthing a seamless enforcement strategy.
Additionally, the new system incorporates a 24/7 hotline for citizens to report any urgent STVR-related issues, further demonstrating Savannah’s commitment to its residents. The public portal not only tracks active STVR permits but also displays them in real time, which is expected to be live later this summer.
The software makes financial oversight easier for city officials as it enables city staff to review and track revenue collected from STVRs. This feature ensures accurate accounting of hotel/motel excise taxes as well as the much-needed transparency in annual business licensing fees.
The City Council approved the purchase of the software at their meeting in July 2023, investing a total of $290,000 for a three-year contract. This game-changing investment signifies the city’s readiness to embrace modern technology in managing local affairs and ensuring governance is performed efficiently and transparently.
The Rentalscape portal and the complaint hotline are accessible to the public via the city’s official website. Complaints or queries can also be lodged by calling the hotline at (912) 226-0320.
This breakthrough development underlines Savannah’s commitment to continually improving its services to both its businesses and residents. It marks a new era in STVR management, promising increased efficiency, improved transparency, and ultimately, a better experience for all stakeholders involved.
