In a remarkable display of community compassion and commitment, several Cumulus Media radio stations in Savannah, Georgia, led a successful two-day on-air and online radiothon recently, raising over $103,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The entertained and inspired listeners during special programming raised the funds on February 29 and March 1.
The annual Cumulus Savannah Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon leveraged the power of music and locution to rally the community around the life-saving work of St. Jude. Three prominent Cumulus Savannah stations—Magic 103.9/WTYB-FM (Urban AC), I-95 Rock of Savannah/WIXV-FM (Classic Rock), and KIX96/WJCL-FM (Country)—joined forces for this mission.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a bastion of hope that has touched numerous lives. Since its establishment in 1962, it has resolutely battled against childhood cancer, lifting the survival rate from a mere 20% to over 80% today. St. Jude ensures no child is denied treatment based on race, religion, or a family’s financial capacity, as families under its care never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food.
The Cumulus Savannah team, through the Radiothon, not only raised funds but also emphasized the need for broader community involvement in the fight against childhood cancer. DJ Rax, Operations Manager at Cumulus Savannah, lauded the entire team, their generous sponsors, and their incredible listeners who partnered in hope with them and St. Jude to raise the considerable sum.
An array of sponsors bolstered Cumulus Savannah’s fundraising efforts, including OC Welch Ford Lincoln, the primary sponsor of the event. Others like Dyess Air & Plumbing, Harbor Mortgage Company, Savannah Harley Davidson, Sylvan Learning Center of Savannah, MacAljon, Cirque De Paris, and Bandana Burger also lent their support, enhancing the reach and effectiveness of the fundraising initiative.
The Radiothon broadcast was not without its star personalities who commanded the airwaves throughout the event. These included well-loved figures like I-95 Rock of Savannah’s Billie Marshall and Renee LaSalle; Magic 103.9’s K.Michelle; and KIX96’s Sarah Lynn and McCracken. Their engaging delivery, coupled with touching interviews and interesting guest-spotlights, made for an energizing fundraiser that left an indelible impression on all involved.
To support St. Jude’s mission, Cumulus Savannah appealed to interested persons to kindly visit stjude.org/donate/ to make their generous donations.
