Savannah Residents Weigh In on Railroad Crossing Project
Attention all Savannah locals! There’s an exciting opportunity for you to make your voice heard as officials are looking into a serious change that could help your daily commute. The President Street Railroad Crossing Elimination Study is now underway, and it’s all about figuring out how to tackle those pesky delays caused by trains passing at the crossing on President Street and Truman Parkway.
Why Is This Important?
If you’ve ever waited at the railroad crossing during rush hour, you know just how frustrating it can be. Thousands of vehicles use President Street daily to travel to and from the bustling downtown area, and those long delays can add up quickly! Local officials, including Chatham County, the city of Savannah, and the Coastal Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (CORE MPO), are taking this matter seriously and want to hear from YOU.
Get Involved Through a Survey
As part of the study, a short survey has been launched online. The survey poses a few important questions like, “How often do you experience delays due to the rail crossing?” and “Which solutions would you prefer for bike and pedestrian facilities?” Taking just a few minutes to share your experiences and opinions can make a real difference in planning for a smoother commute.
Join the Upcoming Community Meeting
If surveys aren’t your thing or you prefer face-to-face interactions, don’t worry! There’s a chance for you to provide feedback in person during a meeting on Wednesday, October 30. This gathering will take place at AB Williams Elementary School located at 1150 Wheaton St. from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. It’s the perfect opportunity to chat about traffic volumes, safety conditions, costs, and how growth is expected to change the landscape, especially with developing industrial areas east of the Truman Parkway.
Why This Study Matters
The purpose of this study is multifaceted. Not only will it examine potential solutions to the delays encountered daily by motorists, but it will also focus on improving safety for everyone, increased traffic efficiency, and future-proofing our roads as Savannah continues to grow. With anticipated growth and changes in the surrounding areas, it’s essential that we think ahead and pave the way for smoother travels.
Get Ready for Changes
As we gear up for this potential evolution in our city infrastructure, it’s crucial for our community to stand up and express how we feel about the current conditions and what improvements we’d like to see. The changes might not happen overnight, but engaging in this process is the first step towards creating a safer and more efficient transport system for everyone!
Upcoming Events Around Town
While we’re on the subject, don’t forget that Dia de Muertos is just around the corner. In celebration of this special holiday, Mattel has introduced two new dolls – a colorful addition that pays tribute to this vibrant cultural festivity! And for those of you who love to rock your favorite footwear, mark your calendars for National Croc Day on October 23. It’s all about showing off those bold colors and embracing comfort.
Take Action Today
In short, the President Street Railroad Crossing Elimination Study is an open door for you to voice your concerns and preferences. By participating in the survey or attending the community meeting, you help shape the future of Savannah’s transport landscape. Don’t miss this chance to be part of the conversation and help make your city a little better for everyone.
As always, a big thank you to our community for staying engaged and proactive. Let’s work together to make Savannah a safer and more efficient place to live!
