Savannah is buzzing with news this week as the Savannah Philharmonic announced that their beloved Music & Artistic Director, Keitaro Harada, will be finishing his time with the orchestra on June 30, 2027. That’s right! We’ve got just a couple more seasons to enjoy his magical touch before he moves on to new adventures.
Now, don’t be sad just yet! There’s still plenty to look forward to. Keitaro Harada has been a dynamic presence since the 2019-2020 season and has truly transformed the Savannah Philharmonic into a powerhouse of musical talent. His unique style and ability to connect with the audience have not just entertained but also energized the local community.
“We are excited to continue working with Keitaro through the 2026-27 season, which will mark his eighth season with the Savannah Philharmonic,” said Daphne Nash, the Board Chair. It’s hard to believe that time has flown by so quickly, isn’t it?
Harada himself couldn’t be more grateful. “Having graduated from Mercer University and starting my professional career in Georgia, being the Music & Artistic Director of the Savannah Philharmonic has been a dream come true for me. I am proud of the journey we have shared together,” he shared with a sparkle in his eyes.
As he looks ahead, Keitaro is excited for the events lined up in the next two and a half years. “It gives me great pleasure to thank the musicians, staff, and patrons for their continued support. Together, we continue to create experiences that only the SavPhil can offer in Savannah,” he adds. Isn’t that a lovely sentiment?
His ambitious goal? To leave on a high note—and honestly, if you’ve seen one of his concerts, you know that there’s already a musical legacy in place. But he also looks to the future with optimism. “I look forward to being inspired by the future guest conductors as we search for the next leader of the Savannah Philharmonic,” Harada muses. The coziest farewell vibe ever!
Amy Williams, the Executive Director, reiterated how fortunate the orchestra is to have Kei’s leadership at such a pivotal time. “He is deeply dedicated to the orchestra, to our community, and to ensuring a stronger future for the arts,” she declared. It looks like they are really setting the stage for solid growth!
And here’s where it gets even more interesting—an international search for Harada’s successor will kick off in the 2025-26 season. That means exciting times ahead for the Philharmonic as they embrace new talent to expand their incredible programs. Can you picture the kind of magic the next conductor will bring? The anticipation is palpable!
As we gear up for these upcoming seasons, the Savannah community is encouraged to stay engaged and follow the Savannah Philharmonic closely. With a string of riveting performances on the horizon and a commitment to high-quality artistry, the magic of live music continues to thrive in our beloved city!
