Savannah Celebrates 75 Years of Greenbriar Children’s Center with a Glamorous Gala

On a fabulous Friday night, the city of Savannah came together to celebrate a remarkable milestone—the 75th Anniversary Gala for the Greenbriar Children’s Center, Inc. Held at the luxurious Hyatt Regency Hotel, this lively event marked years of dedication to nurturing children and supporting families in the community.

A Rich History of Caring

The story of Greenbriar is one of hope and compassion. It all started way back in 1949, thanks to a generous bequest from local philanthropist Adeline Graham and the unwavering support of Rev. Ralph Mark Gilbert from the First African Baptist Church. What began as an orphanage aimed at helping African American children has blossomed into a beacon of support for families of all backgrounds.

The driving force behind the creation of Greenbriar was the Gamma Sigma Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Their vision was clear: to create a safe haven for children and families in need. Today, the center stands proudly as a multifaceted organization offering invaluable services that cater to the diverse needs of the community.

Empowering Families and Children

At the heart of Greenbriar’s mission is a commitment to healthy child development and the strengthening of family units. They offer a range of programs that ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive. Some standout services include:

  • Childcare and accredited early learning programs, including Georgia Pre-K, available at an affordable cost.
  • Family preservation and counseling services designed to keep families together and support their well-being.
  • An emergency shelter for children and young adults, providing a safe environment during times of crisis.
  • Over 70 Project Safe Place sites spread throughout the Savannah area, offering immediate access to help for children in need.

Greenbriar is not just any children’s center; they are accredited by the Council of Accreditation for Children and Family Services and hold a Georgia Quality Rating for their outstanding early learning programs. With such credentials, it’s no wonder they have become a trusted resource in the community.

Join the Cause—Make a Difference!

Though the gala’s festivities filled the evening with laughter and joy, the need for support never stops. For those who couldn’t make it to the celebration but still want to help, you can make a difference in a child’s life through online donations. Simply visit the Greenbriar Children’s Center’s official website to contribute to this important cause: www.greenbriarchildrenscenter.org. Every little bit helps!

Looking Ahead

As Greenbriar looks towards the future, the organization is excited to continue its mission of uplifting children and families in Savannah and beyond. They are dedicated not just to surviving but thriving, ensuring that every child receives the love, care, and guidance they deserve.

So, here’s to 75 wonderful years of Greenbriar Children’s Center! May the next 75 years be even brighter and full of hope.
