In the vibrant city of Savannah, exciting things happen! Just recently, Lethal Allure Nation (LAN)—Savannah State University’s renowned modeling troupe—celebrated a spectacular 13th Founder’s Day on November 11, 2024. The event, titled “Y2k vs. High Fashion,” took center stage in the Student Union ballroom and truly lived up to the hype.
With a crew of over two dozen enthusiastic students, LAN has proudly claimed the title of SSU’s number one modeling troupe. Their accolades include being two-time winners of the Campus Activity Board (CAB) Bash Fashion show competition. Talk about a winning streak!
This wasn’t just any birthday party, though. For many models, like freshman Malana Johnson, it was their first time stepping onto the runway in front of an audience. The thrill and excitement were palpable as each new model got ready to show off their skills.
“As a new member of LAN, this experience really made me stronger. It inspires me to improve my skills and techniques,” Malana shared with a smile. The show featured a dazzling array of fashion themes, showcasing everything from alluring styles to edgy hardcore looks.
The evening kicked off with the nostalgic vibes of “Moesha,” instantly taking guests back to the iconic 90s era. Model Jailin Johnson wowed the audience in a chic birthday outfit, complete with a party hat and bell bottom jeans, complemented by a trendy green and blue halter tube top. The fashion showcase covered a multitude of modeling techniques and served up plenty of 90s flair.
Among the vibrant models was sophomore Ashariah Keaton, who opened up about the nerves that came with her debut performance. “I became extremely nervous and a little shaky, but I did not let the nerves stop me. I wanted to make everyone proud,” she said. Ashariah emphasized the importance of unity and support within LAN: “Everyone came together to help one another. I love LA.”
While the male models brought a bold edge with their all-black ensembles and ski masks—capturing that urban streetwear aesthetic—the female models captivated the audience’s attention with their seductive choreography, flaunting black lingerie and elegant white robes.
The grand finale of the fashion show had all the models strutting their stuff one last time, complete with the ceremonial blowing out of a birthday cake and performing their famous ‘Who You Wit’ stroll. Such a delightful way to wrap up a memorable night!
The planning committee of LAN went above and beyond, collaborating with local student entrepreneurs to celebrate the organization’s birthday. Several black-owned fashion and beauty brands showcased their products, including Full of Vengeance, Jaded, Fastmoney, and Perfect Temptations. Attendees had the exciting chance to purchase stylish hoodies, trendy shirts, pants, and even beauty products and lash services!
Junior and CEO of Fastmoney, Kaloun Walker, shared his appreciation for being part of the event, stating, “I appreciate the great opportunity to network. I enjoyed the crowd and am excited to work with them again on my new collection!”
