Savannah’s Annual Haunted House: A Spooktacular Fundraiser
As Halloween approaches in Savannah, Georgia, the excitement in the air is palpable! This season of ghostly thrills and spine-chilling scares is uniquely celebrated with the return of the Alee Shriners’ annual haunted house. This much-loved local tradition promises to bring some festive fear to the community as they gear up for a frightfully fun October.
A Tradition Since 2006
The haunted house is not just a recent addition to Savannah’s Halloween festivities. It first opened its eerie doors back in 2006, and over the years, it has only gotten better! This year, despite the challenges posed by Hurricane Helene that delayed their opening weekend, the Alee Shriners are all set to scare and entertain brave visitors who are willing to enter their chilling realm.
Get Ready for Frights and Delights!
Stepping into the haunted house means stepping into a world filled with spooky sights and sounds, expertly crafted to give you the ultimate scare. Every year, the team, led by chairman Will Morgan, makes it a point to change things up, ensuring there are fresh surprises for returning guests. Will shared that it’s truly a joy to see the excitement on people’s faces – whether they’re jumping from a sudden scare or feeling so frightened that they need to take a break. “We want everyone to have fun,” he says, noting the strategically placed exit signs and doors throughout the attraction for those who need a quick escape. “Sometimes people say, ‘I can’t take it no more, I got to get out,’ so we got to get them out.”
A Haunting with a Purpose
But there’s more to this haunted experience than just hair-raising thrills! The annual haunted house serves as a critical fundraiser for the Alee Shriners, an organization dedicated to helping children in need. Their noble cause includes providing care for kids with cleft palates, bone diseases, and various other crippling ailments. With over 22 children’s hospitals and several clinics across the country, the Shriners offer these medical services at no cost, including transporting kids to and from treatments.
Community and Connection
Will explains that he loves the fundraising aspect, as it not only supports their mission but also helps spread awareness. “Whether it’s selling boston butts, hosting car shows, or organizing Easter egg hunts, we want the community to know what we do and why we’re here. It’s the best work you’ll ever do,” he emphasizes. Every penny raised during the haunted house helps ensure that kids receive expert, no-cost medical care when they need it most.
