Savannah Gears Up for Final Storm Debris Collection Ahead of Deadline

Savannah Prepares for Final Storm Debris Collection

Hey there, Savannah! It’s time for some important news regarding the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and the city’s ongoing cleanup efforts. As we all know, hurricanes can leave quite a mess, and our beloved city has been working around the clock to clean up the storm debris. So, grab your coffee and read on as we share the latest updates.

Mark Your Calendars!

Circle the date on your calendar because the final citywide storm debris collection route is set to kick off on Monday, November 25. That’s right! The City of Savannah has been hard at work since October 4, activating a contractor to help collect the debris that many of us have seen piling up in our neighborhoods after that whirlwind of a storm.

Debris Collection Stats: A Look at the Numbers

Can you believe it? As of November 19, the City estimates that they have successfully collected over 67,204 cubic yards of vegetative debris and around 12,000 cubic yards of mulch debris. Early predictions suggested that around 300,000 cubic yards of debris would need to be picked up. However, it looks like the final tally is going to be closer to 150,000 cubic yards—definitely a reduction, but still a hefty amount to clear!

What to Do With Your Debris

Now, here’s the scoop for residents. If you have storm-related debris left hanging around your property, be sure to get it out to the curb by Sunday, November 24, to make sure it gets scooped up in this final citywide collection. The contractor’s last pass will focus primarily on large piles of debris that could pose risks to both public health and safety.

Don’t worry if you’ve got smaller items or the usual green debris like leaves and branches. Those will still be collected during the City’s regular yard waste collection routes. If you happen to notice any missed collections or run into other issues, don’t hesitate to reach out! You can give a call to 311 or submit a request through the SAV311 app.

Collection Guidelines: Keep It Organized!

To ensure the process goes smoothly and efficiently, residents are advised to follow the debris placement guidelines. This will help keep our city looking tidy and safe as we navigate through the cleanup process. You can find more detailed instructions on storm debris removal by visiting the City’s website at savannahga.gov/sanitation.

A Community Effort

As we roll into the final phase of cleanup, it’s important to remember that we’re all in this together. Your participation really makes a difference. The efforts of each resident help to hearten our community and restore our neighborhoods back to their beautiful selves.

Let’s stay proactive, Savannah! Make sure your debris is ready for pickup and let’s all work together to speed up this recovery process. Like they say, out of the storm comes a stronger community! Thanks for your attention, and let’s get our beloved city back in shape!
