The City of Savannah has been hard at work since October 4, activating a contractor to help collect the debris that many of us have seen piling up in our neighborhoods after that whirlwind of a storm.
Debris Collection Stats: A Look at the Numbers
Can you believe it? As of November 19, the City estimates that they have successfully collected over 67,204 cubic yards of vegetative debris and around 12,000 cubic yards of mulch debris. Early predictions suggested that around 300,000 cubic yards of debris would need to be picked up. However, it looks like the final tally is going to be closer to 150,000 cubic yards—definitely a reduction, but still a hefty amount to clear!
What to Do With Your Debris
Now, here’s the scoop for residents. If you have storm-related debris left hanging around your property, be sure to get it out to the curb by Sunday, November 24, to make sure it gets scooped up in this final citywide collection. The contractor’s last pass will focus primarily on large piles of debris that could pose risks to both public health and safety.
Don’t worry if you’ve got smaller items or the usual green debris like leaves and branches. Those will still be collected during the City’s regular yard waste collection routes.
