Historic Savannah Foundation Continues Lecture Series with Women in Construction Discussion Panel
In honor of Women’s History Month, the Historic Savannah Foundation is set to host a special panel discussion titled “Women in Construction.” As part of the ongoing 2024 Historic Savannah Foundation Lecture Series themed “People, Places and Stories That Define Savannah,” the panel features Jessica Leavitt Outtara, Katie Fitzhugh, Kelley Lowe, Yolanda Morris, and Amanda Nelson.
Outtara, Chief Culture + Client Officer at Alair Homes and also the President of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) – Savannah Chapter, is part of the distinguished panel. Joining her are Fitzhugh and Lowe, the Director of Deconstruction and Director of Salvage respectively at Re:Purpose Savannah, Morris, the Marketing Manager at Re: Purpose Savannah, and Nelson, owner of Leonard Preservation.
The primary objective of the panel is to highlight the role these women are playing in shaping the future of preservation in Savannah. Historic Savannah Foundation’s CEO, Susan Adler, applauds these women, who, she believes, are carrying forward the legacy of the seven pioneering women who founded the Historic Savannah Foundation in 1955.
Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home Celebrates Author’s 99th Birthday
In other happening news, the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home is hosting a grand celebration for the author’s 99th birthday. The event, which will be held in conjunction with Savannah Local Author Day, will involve live music by the Sweet Thunder Band, improv opera with Moon River Opera, a popup art show by Panhandle Slim, lots of birthday cake and other exciting features. Participants will even be encouraged to dress as their favorite characters from Flannery O’Connor’s writings as part of a fun-filled extravaganza.
Girls Code Savannah Springs Back into Action
Free coding classes for 5th to 8th-grade girls are back in action as Girls Code Savannah partners with Live Oak Public Libraries to offer four in-person Saturday Sessions starting March 23rd, 2024. Aimed at inspiring young girls to explore technology, coding education, and consider high-income STEM-based careers, the initiative is committed to creating an inclusive and conducive learning atmosphere.
Grant for New Stage at SCI’s Center for Successful Aging
Senior Citizens Inc (SCI), a nonprofit committed to helping people age successfully, has received a $7,500 grant from the Nora L. and Henry Cunningham Fund. The grant will be used to install a new stage for The Learning Center and other events at SCI’s Center for Successful Aging, making the various presentations more accessible to all attendees.
New Enmarket Store Opens at White Bluff and Eisenhower
Finally, the popular convenience store chain, Enmarket, opened its first newly constructed premises of 2024 on March 2 at the intersection of White Bluff Road and Eisenhower Drive. Featuring a 12-pump canopy for multiple fuel grades, a new Marketwash car wash, an Eatery, and more, the outlet marks a new epoch in retail convenience for local shoppers.
