The city’s strategy, dubbed 100% Savannah, begins with the goal of transitioning all electricity consumed in the city to come from renewable sources by 2035. As part of this initiative, Savannah has already installed rooftop solar at 19 city facilities, positioning itself to become the largest municipal power producer in Georgia.

Chatham County is also jumping on board, investing $100 million to enhance drainage systems. This includes widening canals and upgrading stormwater pumps, vital aspects of preparing for future storms and flooding. Alderman Nick Palumbo emphasizes, “With the IRA, we can rely on solar for more facilities throughout the city. It also provides workforce training and consumers are seeing energy savings.”
