Savannah Issues Boil Water Advisory for Residents on Ogeechee Road

The City of Savannah has announced a precautionary boil water advisory for residents in the vicinity of 2729 Ogeechee Road due to a recent water main break.

The advisory affects approximately 25 homes along Ogeechee Road from Dawes Avenue to Stiles Avenue. This situation has arisen from ongoing construction related to a Department of Transportation project at the junction of Ogeechee Road and Stiles Avenue.

Precautions for Residents

  • Residents are advised to boil water before use for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, and preparing baby formula.
  • A rolling boil for at least one minute is recommended to ensure safety.
  • It is crucial to continue boiling water until the city lifts the advisory.

Water main breaks can lead to contaminants entering the water supply, presenting health risks. Boiling water effectively kills bacteria and other harmful organisms. It is important to note that even clear water may harbor dangerous microorganisms.

Ongoing Updates

The city will provide updates as repair crews address the water main break. As of now, there is no specified timeline for when the advisory will be lifted.

Additional Advisory for Dutch Island

A separate boil water advisory is also in effect for Dutch Island residents, prompted by damage to another waterline during contractor work in the area. Restaurants in both affected zones should rely on boiled or bottled water until water quality testing confirms safety.

Residents are not required to boil water for showering, bathing, washing hands with soap and tap water, washing clothes, or cleaning floors.
