SAFE Shelter Receives Generous $50,000 Grant from Savannah Philanthropic Partners

Philanthropic Endeavors to Support Domestic Violence Services

Savannah, Georgia – In a significant move to support the victims of domestic violence, Savannah Philanthropic Partners (SPP), a local giving circle, has awarded a grant of $50,000 to the SAFE Shelter Center for Domestic Violence Services. As the region’s standalone domestic-violence shelter for women, the considerable donation will assist numerous programs committed to the survivors and their children.

Aiding Community In Need

The generous grant was endowed to Shannon Bates, SAFE Shelter’s Chief Executive Officer, on February 6. Bates exuded gratitude towards SPP, highlighting the parallel of inception both organizations share. “This grant is so special to us, as it is given by an organization founded by four local women who wanted to help their community. Forty-five years before, SAFE Shelter was also founded by the same number of local women driven to make a difference and offer a haven for survivors of domestic violence and their children,” Bates commented.

SAFE Shelter’s Mission for Survivors

Born in 1979, SAFE Shelter expanded its operations by opening the current facility in 2001. The organization is consistent in its response to queries, offers discipleship, safety measures, and connecting survivors to the necessary services via its 24/7 access hotline. The survivors and their children are also provided confidential, protected, and temporary housing options, all without any charge.

SPP’s Community-Led Philanthropy Births Accomplishments

Lorraine Boice, one of the SPP founders, praised SAFE Shelter for its transformative services to the local women and children in dire circumstances. Boice said, “SAFE Shelter is an organization which has an immediate and positive impact on the lives of local women and their children, at a time when they are most in need. This grant demonstrates the power of a giving circle focused on the health and well-being of underserved people in Savannah.”

Tied Notions of Altruism: SPP and Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation

Recently, the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, located in Atlanta, acknowledged Savannah Philanthropic Partners’ exceptional efforts to uplift the mental health and well-being of Savannah’s women and children, by awarding the latter a grant of $25,000. Mr. Blank, the co-founder of The Home Depot, has left no stone unturned in philanthropy, bestowing upwards of a billion dollars via the Family Foundation.
