Savannah, GA— Savannah College of Art and Design, commonly known as SCAD, has secured renowned actor and best-selling author Rob Lowe as the keynote speaker for its 2024 commencement filled with festivities in Savannah and Atlanta. The award-winning narrative artist is expected to share his words of wisdom with over 3,700 graduates, making it the largest class in the university’s history.
Lowe who rose to fame with the films ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’, ‘About Last Night’, and ‘The Outsiders’, has been the recipient of two Emmys, six Golden Globe nominations, and has two Screen Actors Guild awards to his name. The celebrated actor has recently wrapped up the second series of his Netflix comedy ‘Unstable’, which is inspired by his and his son, John Owen Lowe’s humorous relationship on social media.
On June 1 and June 2, SCAD founder and the president, Paula Wallace, will confer degrees to the graduating class. The commencement, celebrating the university’s 45 years of star power, will include speeches from talented students, faculty, staff, and acclaimed industry leaders. These inspirational speeches will be shared in a grand twinned event organized once at Enmarket Arena to honor SCAD Savannah and SCADnow graduates and on the following day at Georgia World Congress Center to honor SCAD Atlanta graduates.
SCAD’s graduates come from over 40 top-ranked majors including animation, fashion, film and television, interior design, and user experience (UX) design.
