A road rage incident in Beaufort County, South Carolina ended in gunfire on Wednesday afternoon when a 19-year-old man allegedly fired a stolen weapon at another driver.
According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), Joshua Navarrette Castro, 19, is now facing multiple charges including attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, discharging a firearm into a motor vehicle, and possession of a stolen firearm.
Authorities reported that deputies responded to a business in the Bluffton area just after 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday. They found a 22-year-old man who claimed he had been shot at while traveling on Fording Island Road following a verbal altercation.
As per the victim’s account, a vehicle had been trailing him closely as he was leaving Hilton Head Island. Once both vehicles had crossed the Hilton Head bridges, a heated argument ensued between the man and the other driver, identified later as Castro.
It was at this point that Castro allegedly fired a shot into the passenger side door of the man’s vehicle before making a U-turn and heading back towards Hilton Head Island. Meanwhile, the victim pulled over safely and immediately contacted the local authorities to report the incident.
Deputies were able to track down a vehicle that matched the description provided by the victim. They pulled the vehicle over on William Hilton Parkway and identified the driver as Castro.
The police later conducted interviews with both parties involved and collected necessary evidence from Castro’s vehicle. Based on these investigations, Castro was arrested and is currently being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center.
