Hardeeville Welcomes New City Manager Josh Gruber as Community Gears Up for Local Elections

Community Growth Celebration

Exciting Times Ahead in Hardeeville with a New City Manager

In the heart of our beloved city of Hardeeville, exciting news was in the air on August 22, as the city council officially announced the appointment of Mr. Josh Gruber as the new City Manager during a lively press conference held at City Hall. Josh, along with his wife Ashley and their two energetic sons, Tyler and Connor, were greeted with warm smiles and heartfelt welcomes from the councilmembers and staff.

A Strong Background Ready for Growth

Josh brings along a wealth of experience that is sure to benefit our community. Currently serving as the Deputy Town Manager in the neighboring town of Hilton Head since 2018, Josh has built a solid foundation in local governance. Before that role, he spent seven years with Beaufort County, wearing many hats, including County Attorney, Deputy County Administrator, and even stepping up as the Interim County Administrator.

His impressive legal background is predicted to be a significant asset as Hardeeville faces new growth challenges. Not only does Josh come with a solid work history, but he also brings established relationships with officials in both counties, as well as with our local municipalities and state delegation. Simply put, he knows the key players and how to get things done.

Looking Ahead: A Bright Future Together

As Josh prepares to step into this vital role on November 1, 2024, the council is busy planning community events to help both Josh and his family settle into the vibrant fabric of Hardeeville. “We’re eager to embrace the Gruber family into our wonderful community,” said one councilmember.

In the spirit of teamwork and collaboration, recognition was given during the meeting to Mayor Pro Tempore Bo White for his leadership throughout the search, along with Councilman John Carroll, who helped coordinate contract terms. These two, alongside Mayor [insert name], are the longest-serving members of the council, and their commitment to Hardeeville speaks volumes as they run for reelection in November.

Local Elections: Your Voice Matters!

In addition to the new city manager appointment, the upcoming local elections are generating some buzz. The deadline to run for municipal office was August 15, and we now have local resident Landon Papay challenging Bo and John for their council seats. Remember, the two highest vote-getters will win their positions. Interestingly, no one signed up to run against the mayor, allowing the current mayor to serve for another four years.

Another important note for citizens: a recent vacancy left by the late Jasper County Councilman Coy Garbade will also be filled in the upcoming elections. With a primary held recently on August 27, candidates Chris VanGeison and Misael Garzon will compete in the special election on November 5. It’s crucial for everyone to engage with the local election process because these decisions impact our public safety and the style of governance that affects our daily lives.

Focus on Transportation and Community Needs

As the council delves deeper into future planning, they recently explored major traffic studies to improve our roadways. On August 20, they welcomed public input regarding the heavily traveled corridor involving SC170 and others, emphasizing the importance of efficient traffic management for workers, tourists, and our residents. The council identified four critical projects that could total an impressive $99.5 million and are part of Jasper County’s Transportation Sales Tax Referendum.

Moreover, the attention on Highway 278 continues, as studies suggest the need for widening and intersections adjustments, further aligning with existing state improvement plans. These initiatives are not just about roads; they are about creating a safer and more desirable community.

A Commitment to Community Welfare

In a beautiful show of community support, the mayor recently helped cut the ribbon on The Freedom House, a shelter dedicated to supporting families transitioning from homelessness. Operated by Family Promise of Beaufort and Jasper County, this facility is a remarkable achievement and reflects the heart of what Hardeeville stands for – compassion and unity.

As we move forward, let’s rally together to welcome our new City Manager and engage actively in our local governance. After all, this is our community, and every voice matters!
