Jonesville, S.C. — A community cookout, called the “Neighborhood Gathering & Cookout,” has been scheduled by the Town of Hilton Head Island (HHI) in a bid to interact more closely with residents. The forum aims to discuss various issues and the town’s ongoing initiatives designed to improve the historic Jonesville area.
The cookout presents an opportunity for the residents of Jonesville and the surrounding neighborhoods to engage directly with HHI staff from multiple departments, including planning, engineering, fire rescue, public safety, and the distinct Gullah Geechee Community Development Corporation.
The gathering will take place on Thursday, Sept. 5 from 5-7 p.m. at the location of the former old stable grounds, situated at 200 Jonesville Rd.
Speaking about the upcoming event, Town Manager Marc Orlando stated: “As part of our Town’s Strategic Action Plan, we are committed to addressing the unique infrastructure needs of historic areas like Jonesville.” Orlando considers direct engagement with the community essential to shape Jonesville’s future, taking into account residents’ concerns and ideas, and sharing the town’s available resources to enhance the area.
The staff members will provide an overview of various ongoing projects and initiatives such as initial ideas for the former Driftwood Stables property, enhancements to roads, parks, open spaces, and pathways, and various other topics related to public safety. Also on the agenda are stormwater management strategies and discussions about zoning, districts, and maintaining neighborhood character.
The town seeks feedback from residents to help shape future plans that will greatly influence the growth and development of the neighborhood. Key initiatives like “The Home Safety Repair Program,” “The Sewer Connection Program,” and “The Historic Neighborhoods Permitting and Design Studio” will be introduced to provide support in various aspects such as property access, conceptual site design, and business licensing.
Combining elements of fun and information exchange, the event promises to offer an array of refreshments, including hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, and beverages for all attendees, thereby fostering a sense of community amongst the residents.
