City of Beaufort Seeks Mural Artist for Downtown Marina Building

Beaufort, SC – The City of Beaufort, in collaboration with the Beaufort Cultural District, is calling all mural artists to leave their mark on the historic downtown area. The opportunity involves painting the north facade of the Downtown Marina restroom building, and the deadline for submissions is fast approaching on February 28.

Calling All Talented Mural Artists

The City of Beaufort is seeking proposals from talented mural artists to design an eye-catching exterior wall mural for the City of Beaufort Marina Restrooms Building. The mural will be approximately 9 feet high by 18 feet wide, and the winning design will be chosen by a committee of art professionals and City staff.

The selected mural design should reflect the history, nature, and beauty of Beaufort, providing a fantastic opportunity for artists to contribute to the cultural fabric of the city and showcase their talent on a public platform.

Important Details and Deadlines

Location: Marina Restrooms Building, Downtown Marina, north wall.
Deadline to Submit: Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Semifinalists will be notified by Friday, March 8, and will have until Saturday, March 30, to submit their final design. A stipend of $250 will be awarded to semifinalists, with the final design selection taking place on Wednesday, April 10. The winning artist will receive an award of $4,000, and the mural painting is scheduled to take place during the summer of 2024.

Submission Requirements

Interested artists must submit the following materials via email to abandon@cityofbeaufort.org by the deadline:

• Current resume or CV (PDF or Word format)
• One letter of reference regarding the artist’s creative work experience
• 3 high-quality images of the artist’s previous work (.jpg or .pdf format)
• Concept sketches illustrating the artist’s vision for this project (.jpg or .pdf format)

Artists may submit up to 3 different concept sketches and provide an optional written description for each sketch at their discretion.

Selection Criteria and Other Conditions

The design of the mural should reflect the history, nature, and beauty of Beaufort, serving as a welcoming image for visitors and residents to enjoy and share on social media. The selected design should also showcase the artist’s skills and creativity, and the artist will retain intellectual property rights.

At its sole discretion, the City of Beaufort may retain the proposal materials for print or digital dissemination, giving full credit to the artist. The proposed artwork must be original and unique to this project, and the final design winner will enter into a contractual agreement with the City to complete the mural during the summer of 2024.

All supplies, materials, and equipment required to complete the mural will be provided by the City of Beaufort, offering a great opportunity for artists to showcase their talent and leave a lasting impression on the downtown area.
