Morning Weather in Savannah: A Comfortable Start to the Day

Good morning, Savannah! Today, we woke up to a lovely start with temperatures hanging around the upper 60s to lower 70s. A little patchy fog might have greeted some of you on your morning commute, but don’t worry, it’s not expected to stick around for long. It’s a refreshing change for many, especially those who are still navigating through the aftermath of power outages. We’re seeing a 5-degree drop in temperatures compared to yesterday, which is certainly a welcome relief!

Sunny and Warm Afternoon Ahead

As we move through the day, expect the temperatures to gradually rise. We should reach the lower 80s by lunchtime and hit the mid-80s this afternoon. It promises to be mostly sunny throughout the day, which is sure to boost our spirits. The good news is that there’s no rain on the horizon today. Although the heat index will peak around 90 degrees later on, it won’t feel quite as sticky as it did yesterday, thanks to those cooler temperatures.

Rivers on the Rise: Monitoring Flood Levels

Major Flood Stage and is expected to drop into Moderate Flood Stage tonight around 8 PM. As for the Ogeechee River at Eden, it’s expected to rise into Minor Flood Stage Saturday afternoon and then crest at Moderate Flood Stage on Sunday. It’s worth noting that many other rivers in the area might reach Minor Flood Stage as well. We’ll be closely monitoring river levels as we head into the weekend. The Ohoopee will remain at Major Flood Stage today, while we keep watch on the Ogeechee and potential impacts downstream in Ellabell and Richmond Hill.

Looking Ahead: A Calm Weekend?

For the next few days, it looks like we’ll enjoy a relatively quiet weather pattern. Highs on Thursday are expected to be in the mid to upper 80s, and then we’ll see those numbers drop into the low to mid-80s on Friday with a slight chance of rain on the horizon. Now, here’s something to keep your eyes peeled for: there’s a 40% chance that we could see a tropical depression forming soon. If it does develop, it could bring some rain Sunday into Monday. But don’t fret—if this system makes an appearance, it’s expected to be much weaker than what we experienced with Helene, likely a tropical depression or perhaps a tropical storm.

Tropical Updates: Riding the Waves

Elsewhere in the tropics, we’ve got our eyes fixed on Kirk, which is predicted to become a Major Hurricane by the end of the week as it stays over open water. Additionally, there’s another tropical wave making its way off the west coast of Africa, expected to morph into a tropical depression within the next couple of days.

Cooler Weather Approaching

As we wrap up the weekend and head into next week, anticipate a return to cooler weather with highs in the lower 80s. Morning lows will also be more refreshing, dipping back into the mid 60s next week. It’s a good time to keep those fans cooled off and maybe enjoy a nice cup of coffee on the porch!

So there you have it, Savannah! The weather might still throw us a curveball or two in the coming days, but for now, let’s embrace the sun and enjoy a beautiful day.
