Hey there, Bluffton! As we gear up to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day on January 20, there are loads of events happening all around Bluffton and Jasper County. It’s a fantastic time to come together as a community, honor the legacy of Dr. King, and enjoy some fun activities for all ages!
Mark your calendars for January 18, as we start the celebration with a MLK Community Service Project. Join your friends and neighbors at 9 a.m. for a cleanup of our beloved historical Gullah cemeteries. These sites hold deep meaning for many residents, and your help in preserving them is invaluable.
Later that same day, stop by the Campbell Chapel A.M.E Church of Bluffton at 3 p.m. for an Old Time Gospel Camp Meeting. Musicians, choirs, and faith leaders will come together for an uplifting event that’s open to everyone! It’ll be sure to fill your heart with joy.
On January 19, gather the family for an evening of creativity with the Poster Making for the MLK Parade. This event will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 39 Persimmon Street, Suite 201. Make your voices heard and your colorful signs ready for the parade that follows!
Then, on January 20, don’t miss the chance to partake in the Hilton Head MLK Day Parade. Starting bright and early at 10 a.m. from Hilton Head High School, it’s a great way to show support and solidarity with friends and community members.
After the Hilton Head parade, make your way to May River Theatre at Bluffton Town Hall for the Memorial Program and Youth Day at 2 p.m.. Local youth groups will perform, while community leaders discuss the importance of this day during a moving visual presentation.
If you’re eager for more community connection, participate in the Bluffton MLK Day March at 2 p.m.. It kicks off from Bluffton Town Hall, where a pre-event program runs from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. After the march, join fellow attendees for a free community meal at Oyster Factory Park. And don’t forget to bring supplies for the “Backpack Buddies” to help those in need.
Pencil in January 28 for the Bluffton Ambassador Program, a free offering from the University of South Carolina-Beaufort. As the month wraps up, get ready for some indulgence during the Bluffton Area Chamber of Commerce Chocolate Walk 2025 on February 6. From Noon to 7:00 p.m., wander through Bluffton and sample delightful chocolate treats from local shops. Tickets go on sale on January 20 for just $15. Hurry, only 200 are available!
