In a solemn development concerning a missing persons case, the body of an 81-year-old man from Beaufort County, known as Martin Raffone, Jr., was located late Saturday evening near a river in Lee County. The discovery was made in a wooded area adjoining the Lynches River in the Lynchburg community.
Raffone, who was driving a white 2015 Hyundai Genesis, was last seen on February 20. It was eventually his car that led to his tragic, but resolving discovery on Saturday, near the Lynches River. The officials at the scene believe that no criminal involvement is suspected in the elderly man’s demise.
Lee County Coroner Larry Logan confirmed the discovery of Raffone’s body. Following the spotting of Raffone’s car, which was parked unattended near Lynches River, a search operation was promptly initiated. The search team was successful in locating Raffone’s body within approximately an hour and a half of concerted efforts.
“While the confirmation of Mr. Raffone’s passing is deeply sorrowful, it brings closure to the relentless search operations,” stated Logan. He went on to add that from an initial standpoint, they do not suspect any foul play in Raffone’s passing.
To substantiate the actual cause of death, an autopsy on Raffone’s body was quickly ordered. The examination will be carried out at the Newberry Medical Center. As yet, there are no indications as to when the results of the autopsy will be available. However, further updates will continue to be released on this case by the authorities.
The identification of Raffone’s body has left the close-knit community of Beaufort County in a state of mourning. As confirmed by local sources, Raffone, already in his 80s and speculated to have dementia, was greatly respected and loved within the county. Over the last weeks, family, members of the community, and authorities had been tirelessly searching for the missing senior citizen, praying for his safe return.
Martin Raffone, Jr.’s untimely death brings to light the necessity for further understanding and providing support for the seniors, especially those living with cognitive conditions such as dementia.
