Beaufort is buzzing with excitement as the Pat Conroy Literary Center gears up to host its 8th Annual Lowcountry Book Club Convention. Mark your calendars for September 27 and 28 because this is an event all book lovers won’t want to miss!
This year’s convention is perfect for everyone—from seasoned book club enthusiasts to those looking to dive into the world of reading. And let’s be honest, who doesn’t enjoy a good book? The convention will kick off on Friday evening at the Technical College of the Lowcountry (TCL) in Beaufort, featuring a panel discussion with some fantastic local authors.
Attendees will get the chance to hear from Virginia Hall-Apicella (author of Even a Sparrow), award-winning journalist Michael DeWitt Jr. (who penned The Fall of the House of Murdaugh), Pete Masalin (known for Military Brat), and Kim Poovey (author of Shadows of the War). It sounds like the perfect way to spark interesting discussions about writing and storytelling!
After the panel, guests can enjoy a delightful reception, catered by Downtown Catering, where you can mingle with authors and fellow book lovers alike. Just remember, this is a ticketed event, so grab yours soon! It’s taking place in Building 12 on 104 Reynolds St., Beaufort.
The fun doesn’t stop there! On Saturday, attendees will head over to the Culinary Institute of the South in Bluffton for a full day of literary festivities. Enjoy gourmet box lunches, also provided by Downtown Catering, while listening to inspiring keynote conversations.
One of the highlights of the event is a chat with Kimberly Brock, author of the upcoming novel The Fabled Earth, in conversation with the Conroy Center’s executive director, Jonathan Haupt. You’ll also hear from middle school librarian Amanda Jones, known for her memoir That Librarian, who will discuss the importance of access to books in a special event dedicated to Let Freedom Read Day.
Finally, novelist Rhonda McKnight, who wrote The Thing About Home, will be engaging in a lively discussion about her work and journey as an author. Each conversation will wrap up with a book signing, where you can get your new favorites personalized!
If you’re excited to attend, don’t wait too long to register! Advance registration is necessary and must be completed by September 22. You can easily secure your spot by visiting the event website. Trust us; you won’t want to miss out on this celebration of literature and community.
The Lowcountry Book Club Convention is not just a treat for the eyes and mind but is also a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and connect with people who share your love for reading. This gathering promises to celebrate stories that resonate with us all, touching on themes of hope, resilience, and the importance of community.
