During a teaser clip shared online and aired on another program on October 6, Harris responded to a question from correspondent Bill Whitaker about whether the U.S. lacks sway over Netanyahu. In her long response, Harris talked about the financial aid the U.S. provides to Israel and the importance of that aid in protecting Israel from attacks, mentioning dangers posed by groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.
Harris’s detailed comments emphasized the necessity for humanitarian aid and the urgency for peace. She stated, “It is without any question our imperative to do what we can to allow Israel to defend itself” and expressed strong support for diplomacy, mentioning that ongoing efforts involve significant discussions about ending the war and the need to release hostages.
However, when the full interview aired on October 7, viewers noticed Harris’s response was much shorter. In contrast to her lengthy comments about the challenges Israel faces and her advocacy for peace, the televised version stripped down her statements to a brief assertion about the diplomatic work being done. She affirmed that the U.S. would not cease efforts to communicate the importance of ending the conflict.
This discrepancy between the two versions sparked a flurry of activity on social media as clips were shared side by side, prompting many to question the integrity of the editing process. Trump took to his social media platform, declaring that CBS should be investigated for the edit, claiming it made Harris appear “more Presidential.” He suggested the network had a bias in its presentation.
In light of the controversy, an aide from the Harris campaign stated, “We do not control CBS’s production decisions and refer questions to CBS.” So far, CBS has not provided a public comment on the back and forth regarding the interview edits.

It is the first general election year since 1968 where neither presidential candidate has participated in an interview with the show during October.
