In a lively showdown at the polls, Jeff Bradley, the Republican incumbent, has emerged victorious to continue representing State House District 123. With his win confirmed around 11 p.m. on Tuesday night, Bradley secured a solid 14,123 votes, translating to 61.2% of the total votes cast in the district, which comprises the beautiful locales of Hilton Head and Daufuskie Islands, along with Levy.
His Democratic challenger, Lisette Ciafldi, fell short, earning 8,938 votes or 38.7%, according to unofficial results reported just after midnight on Wednesday.
Bradley, who first took the lead in District 123 back in 2014, has managed to keep a firm grip on his seat. In the 2020 elections, he achieved an impressive 62.5% of the votes against opponent Christine deVries, and just last year, he cruised through the election unopposed. This latest victory proves the strong support he enjoys from the local community.
Looking ahead, Bradley already has a full plate of issues he plans to tackle. Over the next two years, residents can expect him to dive into critical matters such as improving infrastructure projects and enhancing the ferry service to and from Daufuskie Island. Residents have expressed their eagerness to see positive changes in these areas, and they’re hoping Bradley will rise to the challenge.
As he steps into this new term, Bradley has outlined three key priorities that will guide his work in the State House:
In case you didn’t know, the State House is made up of 124 part-time citizen legislators who represent distinct districts across the state, with elections held every two years. The current makeup is heavily tilted toward the Republicans with 87 members, while 35 are Democrats, leaving two vacancies in the House.
As the dust settles from the elections, all eyes will be on the General Assembly’s annual session, which kicks off on the second Tuesday in January and wraps up on the second Thursday in May. Bradley, with his wealth of experience—having served as Chairman for various influential committees including Regulations and Administrative Procedures and Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Cyber Crime—is well-prepared to tackle the issues at hand.
As locally engaged citizens of Hilton Head, Daufuskie Islands, and Levy reflect on their voting decisions, one thing is clear: they appreciate having a representative like Jeff Bradley who listens and responds to their concerns. With the community’s support backing his initiatives, there’s a lot of hope for progress over the next couple of years!
Stay tuned as Bradley gets to work in the upcoming session, ensuring that the voice of District 123 continues to resonate powerfully within the halls of the State House!
