Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, is gearing up for a very special event this October. The Jazz for All Ages Music Festival, hosted by the energetic Bob Masteller, is returning for its 10th year. This exciting celebration of music is scheduled for October 13 and 14 at the lovely Sonesta Beachfront Resort. If you love jazz, this is an event you won’t want to miss!
Each day of the festival will kick off with a wonderful Swinging Jazz Brunch. What could be better than enjoying delicious food while listening to some amazing tunes? A variety of talent will grace the stage, including acclaimed musicians like John Pizzarelli, Catherine Russell, April Varner, Mark Rapp, Emmet Cohen, Kurt Elling, and Sean Jones. Festival Director David Mastellar emphasizes just how fortunate attendees are: “This is the kind of caliber of musicians that you have to go to the cities to see. Usually you have to travel far, too. And we’re bringing them right back right here in their own backyard.”
The music festival offers more than just great performances. It plays a significant role in supporting local communities as well. As David Mastellar put it, “Not only does the festival bring great music, but it helps bring money back into the community and goes straight back to our youth to continue to pursue music and have music be a part of school, which we think is important.” Proceeds from the event will benefit the Junior Jazz Foundation, ensuring that music stays alive in local schools.
In order to understand the festival’s impact, it’s essential to know who it supports. According to James Berry, a board member of the Junior Jazz Foundation, “The Junior Jazz Foundation has an instrument donation program, a school grant program, college scholarship program, lots of different things that they help support.”
Berry, who founded the Hilton Head jazz camp in 2011, spoke passionately about how the festival and the foundation work together to encourage young musicians. He expressed pride, sharing, “We have about 15 alumni that are currently full-time musicians, so it’s really awesome to see the impact that the camp has had over the years.” This highlights just how crucial initiatives like this are in nurturing the next generation of talent.
If you’re on Hilton Head Island or nearby, mark your calendars for this fantastic festival! It’s a perfect opportunity to soak up some incredible live music while supporting a wonderful cause.
