Improved Cell Service in Savannah Promises Enhanced Connectivity During Major Events

Exciting News for Savannah: Improved Cell Service for Big Events!

Hey there, Savannah! If you’ve ever found yourself in a frustrating situation, frantically trying to send a text or make a call during one of our awesome local events – like the St. Patrick’s Day parade – then you’re not alone. Many of us have experienced those dreaded moments of dropped calls or texts that just won’t go through. But guess what? There’s great news on the horizon, and it comes straight from Verizon!

Say Goodbye to Bad Connections!

This week, Verizon unveiled a new project aimed specifically at improving cell service throughout downtown Savannah during major events. An Assistant Performance Engineer from Verizon took us on a tour to share how they’re tackling this common issue. “Just look up,” he pointed out, “You can see the antenna right on top of the DoubleTree here.”

Isn’t that neat? This system is part of what they call an Outdoor Distributed Antenna System, or ODAS. The goal is to enhance cell coverage at popular spots in our city like the parade routes, City Market, and River Street. These places have loads of folks buzzing about during big events, and now they might just have the signal strength to keep everyone connected!

A New Era in Connectivity

Previously, during large events, Verizon had to rely on temporary solutions, affectionately known as “COWs” or Cell on Wheels. While these mobile signal boosters did the trick for a while, they’re not the prettiest sight and can be quite the eyesore. The new permanent installations mean that we won’t have to deal with those bulky units cluttering up our scenic views during celebratory times.

When asked about the importance of this partnership between Savannah and Verizon, our tour guide explained, “It benefits everyone! It takes the eyesore of the COWs away and helps our customers in specific areas where they need it most, rather than meeting them at random spots.”

Focusing on the Hotspots

So, how did they decide where to place these new antennas? It turns out, they focused on areas that see the most foot traffic during events. “We have them located here at City Market and other squares nearby. Even before St. Patrick’s Day starts, people set up their tents, and we want to make sure everyone is covered. We even have one in Forsyth Park!”

It’s clear that Verizon really put thought into the placement of these antennas. They aimed for locations that bring people together to enjoy festivities while ensuring that everyone can stay connected with friends and family.

Making Memories Without Missing a Beat

The best part? With these improvements, next time you’re laughing with friends at the parade or taking in the sights with your family at River Street, you might be able to post that perfect photo on Instagram or share a funny moment on Facebook without a hitch! Imagine enjoying all the fun and still being able to capture every amazing moment and connection in real-time.

Looking Forward

Savannah is known for its vibrant community and lively events, and thanks to Verizon’s dedicated effort, you’ll hopefully be able to stay connected without those pesky interruptions. So the next time you’re out celebrating in the heart of our gorgeous city, worry less about service and focus more on enjoying the moment!

Here’s to better connections and even greater celebrations in Savannah!
