In the heart of Savannah, the spirit of giving and community came alive as the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) celebrated a season of generosity. This year marked a fantastic milestone as SCAD donated over 400 gifts to Union Mission, bringing smiles to the faces of local children and their families in need.
As part of the SCAD SERVE initiative, students, faculty, and staff went above and beyond, fulfilling wish lists filled with everything from clothing and toys to books, electronics, and even bicycles. The annual gift drive has become a beloved tradition, fostering a sense of community and holiday cheer.
It’s hard to believe that what started in 1994 as a small holiday partnership has blossomed into a significant collaboration between SCAD and Union Mission. Over the past three decades, this special connection has grown, filling the halls of Union Mission with a festive array of presents just waiting to be opened on Christmas morning.
SCAD’s President and Founder, Paula Wallace, reflected on the enduring partnership, stating, “For a trio of glittering decades, SCAD and Union Mission have joined hearts and hands to share the spirit of the season with our Savannah neighbors.” She expressed gratitude for the hope and joy brought to families, emphasizing that “hope is the most precious gift of all.”
During the festivities, the SCAD elves worked their magic by transforming a room at Union Mission into a whimsical gingerbread wonderland. With cheerful decorations like gingerbread men, houses, and magnificent Christmas trees, the space radiated warmth and holiday cheer, making it a perfect spot for parents to pick up gifts for their kiddos.
Union Mission’s President and CEO, Michael Traynor, shared his heartfelt gratitude for SCAD’s contributions, describing the annual donation drive as filled with “compassion, hope, and impact.” He stated, “For 30 years, SCAD has been the pearl of Union Mission’s holiday season.” This partnership strengthens the bonds within the Savannah community, making a real difference in the lives of its residents.
With the holidays just around the corner and the success of this year’s event still fresh in everyone’s minds, excitement is already building for future collaborations. Both SCAD and Union Mission look forward to continuing their partnership, ensuring that families in Savannah will receive much-needed care and support each holiday season.
The SCAD and Union Mission partnership serves as a heartwarming reminder of the true spirit of the holidays. In a world where it’s easy to get wrapped up in our own lives, this initiative encourages everyone to think about how they can spread a little joy to those less fortunate in their community. Whether it’s through donations, volunteering, or simply offering kind words, every little bit can make a significant impact.
As the community rallies together during this beautiful time of year, let’s all embrace the spirit of giving and create lasting memories filled with love and laughter. Here’s to many more years of holiday magic and community support in Savannah!
