Holiday Brass Concerts Set to Spread Cheer in Savannah

Celebrate the Holidays with Heartwarming Brass Music in Savannah!

As the holiday season approaches, the charming city of Savannah is gearing up for some festive cheer! The Savannah Wind Symphony is inviting everyone to join in a delightful celebration of music that truly embodies the spirit of the season. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a first-time visitor, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to gather with friends and family for two free concerts designed to spread holiday joy.

Brass Concerts You Won’t Forget!

Mark your calendars! The symphony will kick off its much-anticipated “Holiday Brass Concert” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 12th at the beautiful Skidaway Community Church, located at 50 Diamond Causeway. But that’s not all! They’ll be back for a second performance on Sunday, December 15th at 3 p.m. With both concerts being free and open to everyone, this is the perfect chance to enjoy some delightful music without spending a dime.

From Struggles to Triumphs

The Savannah Wind Symphony has been a beloved part of the community for a whopping 47 years, and it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. After facing some significant challenges, including re-launching as an independent nonprofit in 2022 and navigating the post-COVID world, the ensemble has come back swinging. This summer also brought a fresh face to the group with the new creative director, John Madden, who has revitalized the ensemble’s approach.

With a passionate base of 60 volunteer musicians, the symphony has appreciated the undying support from Savannah residents. Euphonium player Bryan Miles expressed, “The ensemble emerges stronger, more unified, and ready for new musical challenges.” And in the spirit of gratitude, the symphony is excited to showcase their hard work through these special holiday performances.

Fun and Festivity in Every Note

Bryan, who moved to Savannah from Washington, D.C., shared his vision about the holiday concert, which quickly turned from an idea to a reality after pitching it last year. “I have been listening to Christmas music since August,” he chuckled, adding that he has carefully curated a thrilling selection that will feature various sections of the ensemble. Expect a mix of traditional carols and some contemporary favorites, including a fun mashup of “Jingle Bells” and the “Hallelujah Chorus”. Bryan has the audience in mind, promising about an hour of entertaining tunes, complete with a 10-minute break to gather your thoughts (or grab a snack!).

Experience the Magic of Live Music

What makes this concert even more special is the unique performance space at Skidaway Community Church, which offers an incredible acoustic experience. Bryan is excited about the chance to create an antiphonal effect by placing musicians on either side of the sanctuary. “It allows us to play with sound in ways that really highlights the brass instruments,” he explained. Expect an auditory treat that showcases the beautiful diversity of brass sounds, including instruments like flugelhorn and piccolo trumpet.

Community Connections Matter

Since moving to Savannah, Bryan and his husband have noticed a heartwarming sense of community that stands in contrast to the transient nature of city life they experienced in the capital. “The biggest thing we’ve noticed is there’s a wonderful sense of community that we didn’t feel in D.C.,” he stated. “Here, when you’re out, you run into the same people and say hello, which creates a more genuine connection.”

Don’t Miss Out!

So, whether you’re looking to kick off the holiday celebrations, reconnect with friends, or simply soak in some festive tunes, make sure to swing by the Savannah Wind Symphony’s Holiday Brass Concert on December 12th and December 15th. The entire community is ready to embrace the spirit of the holidays with open arms, and all you need to bring is your love for music!
