Sponsor Our ArticlesHey there, music lovers! If you’re ready to soak in some incredible tunes and enjoy a lively atmosphere, you’re in luck. Hilton Head Island is all set to host the 10th Annual Jazz for All Ages Music Festival, and you won’t want to miss it! Mark your calendars for October 13 and 14, as the beautiful Sonesta Beachfront Resort will be transformed into a jazz lover’s paradise.
Each day of the festival kicks off with a Swinging Jazz Brunch. Who doesn’t love great food paired with great music? Following brunch, the festival rolls on with a lineup that’s sure to impress. You can expect to hear from some phenomenal artists like John Pizzarelli, Catherine Russell, April Varner, Mark Rapp, Emmet Cohen, Kurt Elling, and Sean Jones. “This is the kind of caliber of musicians that you have to go to the cities to see,” says David Mastellar, the festival’s director. The thrilling part? You get to enjoy this high-quality music right in your own backyard!
The festival is about more than just enjoying sweet sounds; it’s also an opportunity to support the local community. Mastellar emphasizes that the event not only brings in crowds but helps pump money back into the area, particularly for youth music programs. “It goes straight back to our youth to continue to pursue music and have music be a part of school,” he adds, highlighting the significance of arts education.
So, where does the money raised go? Proceeds from the festival benefit the Junior Jazz Foundation, which has a mission to nurture young talent. James Berry, a board member of the foundation, explains that they offer numerous programs, including an instrument donation program, school grants, and college scholarships. This helps ensure that kids who may have financial hardships can still engage with the world of music.
Berry recalls his journey, having founded the Hilton Head jazz camp back in 2011. He notes, “We have about 15 alumni that are currently full-time musicians, so it’s really awesome to see the impact that the camp has had over the years.” The festival and foundation work hand-in-hand to inspire and enable kids to follow their dreams in music. Isn’t that a wonderful thing to be a part of?
Are you as excited as we are? This festival promises to be loaded with fantastic performances, delicious food, and a community spirit that’s palpable. Whether you’re a lifelong jazz fan or just looking for a fun weekend outing, the Jazz for All Ages Music Festival has something for everyone. And remember, every ticket purchase is helping to foster the next generation of musicians!
