Many of his offspring took these lessons to heart, with most of them achieving college degrees, including three with PhDs, and one becoming the first native islander to earn a veterinary degree.

His family values were deeply rooted in Gullah traditions, emphasizing not only education but also frequent attendance at church and maintaining strong family ties.
