What a brilliant weekend it was on Hilton Head Island! Car enthusiasts and curious visitors alike gathered for the much-anticipated 2024 Concours d’Elegance and Motoring Festival, which this year set a new high bar in automotive excellence. Under the dynamic leadership of the new President, Chris Brewer, alongside his enthusiastic team, the event was nothing short of spectacular!
The spotlight beamed brightly on a stunning 1911 Oldsmobile Limited Touring Car, which snagged the coveted “Best in Show” title. This magnificent machine, owned by the delightful couple David and Patricia Peeler, is a true rarity on the roads today. It’s worth noting that Oldsmobile manufactured this model between 1910 and 1912, and out of the original production, only 12 of these cars remain, with just 2 of this specific body style gracing the globe. Now that’s what you call a collector’s dream!
Not to be outdone, a sleek 1957 Ferrari GT Tour de France, owned by Fredrick Fisher, pulled into the spotlight, earning the title of “Best of Show Concours de Sport”. This classic Italian beauty has stolen the hearts of many, and it’s easy to see why! With its stunning curves and rich history, the Ferrari made jaws drop and hearts race on the grassy lawns of Hilton Head.
Every car has a story, and one such tale was celebrated with the “Paul Doerring Founder Award”, which recognizes vehicles embodying both innovation and heritage. This year, the award found its home with Nicholas Smith’s 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350. Known for its performance and design, the vintage Mustang represents a key era in automotive history and has evolved into an American icon.
Speaking of favorites, the crown for the 2024 “People’s Choice Award” went to a charming 1929 Ford Model A Roadster, owned by Devon Cole. The Model A, a classic symbol of freedom and adventure, won over the hearts of attendees, reminding everyone of joyful road trips and unforgettable memories. It was clear that the people had spoken, and this vintage roadster was a beloved choice!
This year’s Concours wasn’t just about admiring exquisite vehicles; it offered something for everyone. Attendees enjoyed a delightful atmosphere filled with vintage charm, fantastic food, and plenty of opportunities to connect with fellow enthusiasts. Families strolled among the beautifully lined cars, sharing their passion for automotive history with the younger generation—an event that truly brought the community together!
This festival serves as a joyful reminder of the rich history and luxury of motoring, celebrating not just the cars, but the people, stories, and innovations behind them. Chris Brewer and his team knocked it out of the park, bringing together a seamless blend of elegance, camaraderie, and automotive passion that made this year’s festival truly unforgettable.
As the dust settles on this year’s event and cars are returned to their garages, plans are already underway for next year’s Concours. What exciting vehicles and stories will emerge in 2025? One can only imagine! If this year is any indication, Hilton Head Island will continue to be the go-to destination for car lovers and families alike, uniting everyone over a shared love for classic cars and unforgettable memories.
So, mark your calendars, and be sure to join in the fun next year as the island prepares to roll out the red carpet once again for another round of automotive magic!
