HILTON HEAD, S.C. – On a bright Tuesday morning, Hilton Head Christian Academy took a significant step forward by officially breaking ground on a new multi-million dollar building. The project, which will cost approximately $8 million, is essential for the school as it aims to accommodate its rapidly growing student population.
The school, which relocated to Bluffton three years ago, has seen tremendous growth in enrollment since its move. Doug Langhals, the Head of School, shared that this decision was made to be closer to the majority of their students, who come from outside the island. “Demographic wise the majority of our student body was coming from off-island and so we decided to move out here where the student body was,” said Langhals.
Since the relocation, the academy has experienced a remarkable 65% increase in enrollment, which is a clear indicator of the growing demand for quality education in the area. However, with this surge in students, the school has quickly found itself at capacity. “We’re in the midst of growth and we’re at a moment where we have filled up the building that we have,” Langhals added.
The planned structure will encompass 16,500 square feet and will include essential facilities such as classrooms, lab rooms, and break rooms. Rick Parrish, the Director of Operations from Choate Construction, assured parents and students that the new building will reflect the existing architecture of the campus with a focus on creating a functional and welcoming environment for learning.
Current 7th graders marked a special moment by attending the groundbreaking ceremony, as they will be the first class to enter the new high school when it opens. Senior Connor White expressed his enthusiasm about the new building, noting its potential impact on future students. “This new building that we had about three years ago has revolutionized the way that I’ve been able to learn,” said White. He highlighted the great experiences created by the school’s recent facilities and looked forward to how the new building would further enhance learning opportunities.
As the school moves forward with this construction, it is noteworthy that they have already raised over 75% of the total funds needed for the project. Their goal is to have the new high school building ready for students by the fall of 2025. With this ambitious project underway, Hilton Head Christian Academy is poised to meet the educational needs of its growing community effectively.
As Hilton Head Christian Academy embarks on this new journey, its leadership is committed to providing a rich educational experience in a space designed for optimal learning. This new facility will not only serve the current students but will also cater to generations to come, ensuring that the academy continues to meet the evolving needs of the community.
With the exciting changes on the horizon, parents, students, and faculty alike are looking forward to the positive impact this new building will bring to Hilton Head Christian Academy.
